Cops are buying up GS's now! If you live in the San Francisco area appears there's a pilot program there. I hear it will be spreading across the country. Fun while it lasted

Cali is also a state that's really big on sports cars. We have more racetracks than anyone can ask for.
Secondly, San Mateo is pretty rich. If they have high earnings I don't see why they can't spend more too.
"The median family income is $80,737; the per capita income in San Mateo County is $57,906 — one of the highest in California, while the average household income is $129,000 — making it one of the highest in the nation."

Guess it's time to call Tim and get the full scoop on this. I'm betting it's a one off show car used for recruitment purposes.

That's more like a custom vinyl wrap on a "loaner" ZO6 from the dealership, Boardwalk Chevrolet...both parties get advertisement out of the deal...I doubt the department bought the car...

OP. Just curious as to what's your lament at a law enforcement agency purchasing a corvette is? If that's what happened.
not to mention the enthusiast that you are can't tell the difference between a GS and a Z06.

I had a classmate in 7th grade that ran shine for his Dad. Prince George Elementary school outside of Petersburg. Yes, he had failed a few grades. But he made so much money that he bought a new 57 (dating myself) Chrysler 300C Hardtop with the 392 Hemi. At any rate the local sheriff didn't have a car that could catch him and the gentlemen's agreement was that he had to be caught hauling shine to be arrested and for the shine to be impounded. So the Sheriff being a sporting sort bought a 49 Ford and put a supercharger on its flathead. The tune was so rough it only could be trailered. So the Sheriff would hide it on one of the county roads and try and catch the Chrysler 300C when he saw it pass. Never happened. At least until I left that school in 9th grade.
Local Law Enforcement likely were partners in that Still I imagine.

One of our customers was a state employee that had purchased a impounded car from the state that had once belonged to a moonshine runner.
It was a 1956 Chevrolet 4 door hardtop, red and white. It had a bored & stroked 283 cu in engine(don't know the displacement after the B&S), with a very hot cam and dual fours. Three on the tree. It still had the very large steel moonshine tank in the trunk with a choke cable to the dash to dump the load through a huge quick release valve. It had special overload springs in the rear.
On the outside, the car appeared to be a normal Chevy and not a high horsepower hot rod. Stock hubcaps and white wall tires etc. It was the last car that you would be thinking as a moonshiner's car .I drove it after servicing it and it was FAST.
At the same time a county just south of Little Rock had a new 1959 Chevy Impala 2 door hardtop(copper color) that had the 315 HP(solid lifter cam with 3 two barrel carbs) 348 cu in engine with the factory 4-speed transmission, that belonged to the sheriff. What gave it away as a cop car was the huge chrome siren/red light that was mounted on the driver's side rear wing. When he was in Little Rock, he would stop and fill up.
