Viper vs. Vette
Prior to buying my 17 ZO6 3LZ Watkins Glen Gray I had one 72 454 Vette and 05 Comm edition 960 RWHP DLM Viper and a stock 09 Viper. I thought hard and long on what to buy next. Now that I have 700 miles I was able to test the Vette to its limits, my only disappointment was how well mannered the car was which is not a bad thing. Smooth and predictable almost Lexus like at triple ..... speeds. Not as fast as my 05 but the automatic transmissions consistency almost makes up for the difference in horsepower and the S/C sounds sweet. The Vette has a better sound system, seats and comparing the Vette now to my buddies 15 Viper I have to say hands down I like the Vette better. COMFORTABLE and ergonomically correct. Maybe the correct expression is the benefits and features when spending 4 days and 700 miles made me a believer. I guess I will now be banned or flamed by some of the guys from Viper alley for leaving the dark side but still no gold chains around the neck for me. Looking to meets some new members (Crystal River here) and attending a few Vette gatherings so if you are in central Florid please drop me a line.

Welcome to the Dark Side.
Expect the Viper trolls to show up here...they always do whenever the car is mentioned on this forum.

I still go on cruises with them although I have been using my 69 427 Camaro even when I still had my Viper. Maybe I can help bridge the gap because in the end we all love cars and I intend to bring the Z to our next cruise. Not sure if that is going to help-LOL
Snorman thanks again for all the good advice, you were right I am glad I ordered it and didn't settle for dealer inventory. My 69 is in love.

I had a brand new 2014 Viper GTS for exactly one week before I got rid of it. I couldn't get rid of it quick enough. Compared to the C7 Z06, it is obsolete. Great looking car and great color. Welcome.

Let me say I own a 16 Z51. Now with that said I would take a Viper ANY day over the Vette except in a few cases.
I spent a week at Bondurant with a 16 viper GTS...its a better car IMO. However 2 things that kill the viper....one is cost, its 20G at least over a vette. Second ergonomics on the car are terrible! So living with one everyday is a bit much. The vette is a much easier car to live with day in and out. But IMO the interior and materials are better on a viper. And electronics are way better in dodge vs chevy.
I DD my vette, I wouldn't want to DD a Viper. (Hence why I own the vette! lol) Either way welcome to the club and enjoy!!

The vipers cool in an exotic car way...but with that comes ownership pitfalls that are simply inherent in low volume production cars...
Higher cost of ownership and repair costs simply don't exist for stock corvettes...
You can if you like use the corvette everyday...quite easily and run it hard and for the most part the limiting factor is the driver...
Enjoy your new car and try not to **** off your old viper friends.
Variety is the spice of life...
There can be more than one great sports car...and the viper is included in that group.

Different strokes for different folks, I prefer my Gen IV Viper over my 2016 C7 A8 Z.
CONGRATS OP I am glad that your love you new sweet looking C7 Z and hope you enjoy it in good health!
I did the exact opposite of you and recently bought a 2010 Snakeskin Green ACR, with black tapered stripes in front, 1 of only 4 made, and I could not be happier with this bad azz machine, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!! After the A8 trans. on my 2016 Corvette Z06 had a catastrophic failure and was replaced with a brand new trans., I lost confidence in the C7 Z and traded it for my new Viper. I have to admit compared to the Viper that C7 Z was also boring with the auto A8 trans. M7 is the trans. to get in C7 Z, makes driving SO MUCH funner and less likely to fail!
Don't get me wrong the C7 Z is an awesome looking, super fast, corvette super car, but I just prefer the much more exotic, super rare, in your face, Gen IV Viper ACR, that has ZERO nanny controls. I also like considerably more the Gen IV Viper over the Gen V Vipers b/c the exterior styling on the Gen V Viper is way less aggressive looking (to me) than the exterior body lines of the Gen IV and the Gen V has all the nannies (which I don't like).
This is my second Gen IV Viper as I traded in a 2009 VOI Viper Coupe for the C7 Z06 (big mistake) but everything happens for a reason, as that ultimately led to me getting behind the wheel of my ALL TIME favorite Viper, the 2010 Snakeskin Green ACR that I just bought! The car I bought was PERFECTLY modded by Viper Guru Dan Cragin current owner of Specialty Performance. I am a hardcore go fast guy and my new baby is a complete animal with the following go fast mods. with ZERO nanny controls that has been perfectly modified by Viper Guru Dan Cragin.
1. Belanger Headers and High Flow Cats.
2. Ported and Polished Cylinder Heads
3. Ported Intake Manifold
4. Ram Air Carbon Fiber Kit with K&N Filter
5. Mopar Performance Computer
6. Last but not least rear end ratio upgraded from stock 3.07 to 3.73 gears (simply outrageous).
7. Another great bonus is car was upgraded to an awesome Alpine Stereo system with kick azz speakers and blue tooth which sounds incredible (when I am not just listening to that V 10 engine purring).
This car is a complete beast and incredible looking, puts a HUGE smile on my face whenever I drive it, love it way more than my 2016 C7 Z06 with the A8 trans. (which was boring to drive versus my new to me 2010 Viper ACR.
Now only if it wasant December in the suburbs of Chicago with 7 inches of fresh snow on the ground with sub-zero temps.
Just 3.5 months though until April 1st when the Snakeskin Green Venom Machine will be back out hunting on a full time basis!

Same exact experience here Jimmy.. My viper put an instant grin my my face everytime I turned it on.. 700 ponies of raw NA engine coming through straight pipes that would rattle anything within 50 yard radius at idle.. Unlike you my favorite sound system was the exhaust note.. in my Z A8 I feel like I'm in my dad's caddy.. If they only made a convertible gen5..
In defense of the Z, well my wife can drive it too because its auto.. woohoo

Love the Viper's looks and that's where it stops for me. Didn't like how the car sounded at all during my test drive or the way it rode. With an MSRP of $125K and the dealer not willing to move it made my decision to buy my 2016 3LZ for $74K very easy. A quick trip to Callaway and I now wonder why I ever considered anything else. Great car and congratulations.

Love the new gen vipers but as for the tall spoilers, hate them all - on ACR's, on ricey Honda's, and maybe the new ZR1 ? Yes, they serve a purpose at the tracks but no thanks

Jimmy,
Congrats - great color. Enjoy and be safe.
GM needs to seriously upgrade its color pallet when the new paint shop comes on line.
