It was not a matter of if, but a matter of when....
and the when was this last Monday... yup.. of all the years owning Corvettes it finally happened, my pride and joy took a hit.
Despite my blaring horn, the idiot took a run at the front of my Beast with the back of her SUV. Ran it up onto the nose, smashing the grill, tearing up my clear bra putting small scratches in the paint, and pushing the nose down so no longer is flush with the headlights. Not sure how much damage under the nose as until it's removed no way of telling.
So, my concern is I now have a 2016 $105K, 3300 Mile Z06 with a car fax stating "front end damage".
How can I determine the lost value due to this incident. What do you think.. how much for "diminished value" should I be going after?
So bleeping PO'd..

My buddy who has a 2014 Stingray got hit in a parking garage on the passenger side rear corner, about $ 2500 in damage to the car, but he was awarded over $ 10k for diminished value. That was about a year ago if that helps any.............

AZCANUK, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Don't settle on anything with anyone until you are 110% satisfied. Don't be afraid to be known as a real picky, ahole Corvette owner. Paul

I would document the entire process of the repair with pictures, invoices, estimate ETC. If no paint work is needed this would obviously help you when selling the car. Simple bolt on pieces and a new clear bra. This is def. something to keep in mind.

CarFax doesn't even say what part of car, just accident with an exclamation point. Document is a good idea, but if selling or trading to a dealer they really won't care about the documentation. As to DM, take what Mad Dog sent, and do a google. There are several who travel, and I'd bet some local to you. It could be worth it to you. Good luck.

How does CarFax even find out ? Do the repair shops get paid to give them information ? I have always wondered about this and have known people to get friends to fix their cars so the information never gets to CarFax.

^^^ Repair shops report nothing. Its all on the insurance end.

All about the VIN going into the system. Yes if you have a friend in the business he could repair with no VIN reporting.

My friend who got hit, rear ended, pretty bad but drove the car down the road about 2 miles, crap hanging off no tail lights to his dealer. He basically told them to trade it for a new car and worked it out with the insurance companies.
Basically he got the diminished value in the settlement and a new car. Sure it cost him but not that much, but he got peace of mind with out too much effort.

you have to present the at fault insurance company with an appraisal before and after. I just went thru this and got a 11,500$ check from state farm. I used an appraisal service called IAS. They have two offices in Az, tucson and phx, phx number is 602-424-4495.
My damage was under 10k and Statefarm coughed up 11.5k without trying to counter me. I wish I asked for more, like 20k, and then negotiated from there.

Once a Police Report is taken and it mentions "car accident" CarFax is notified right away I was told.

NOT... Shops nor insurance co's give the accident info to companies like Carfax. Those within the industries (and me) say it comes from the Vin# sent to the dealer which is connected to the manufacture for parts. Try buying a part for your car from any dealer they require at minimum the last 8 digits of your vin or no part. Carfax and others are limited of there detail because they only know the part side if the accident. Insurance co's surly don't want to make this info public.

Personally, I would trade in on a new one....today.
That will give you the actual numbers to pursue a claim.
If you can get attorney fees in addition, then yes hire an attorney to make your life less complicated in this transaction.
That's my two cents...good luck.

OP, go to 3 dealers. a chevy a for and a foreign car dealer. have them appraise for trade unsure which car, just straight talk. let them give you what it's worth NOW (and repaired) and if it didn't have the damage.. there's your diminished value average. heck go to as many as you have a need for. they can't argue with the "real world" figures.
good luck please keep us informed.
