C7 ZR1 at Laguna Seca today

Im surprised they're louder than the Z06. Not due to engineering changes but simply since a louder track car is the last thing track rats need with all the track noise restrictions these days. You'd think GM would be even slightly aware of this issue.

The ZO6 that is there is noticeably quieter than the ZR1's that are being tested. Both low wing and high wing ZR1's sound identical. I was up at the Cork Screw yesterday morning where you can hear the exhaust sound well in that small recess of topography. SBC and a Stick and I discussed this a few days ago on the sound difference. Going from the 1.7 liter Eaton Supercharger to the 2.65 liter one would increase the air volume dramatically and most likely would require a larger diameter exhaust system also. That in itself would make a substantial difference in sound. The ZR1's have a deeper sound to it than every other car there that is testing. So far I have seen both ZR1's (High and low wing), ZO6, Stingray with Grand Sport like Aero, Camaro ZL1-1LE, Standard 1LE, and the V6 Camaro. I'll go up again today to see if there's anything else testing.

The ZO6 appears to be the 2017 but most likely is the 2018 hence the need for testing data. Numerous times I've seen two guys in the cars. One driving and the other looking down at his laptop computer analyzing and/or adjusting the suspension setting's on the fly as their going around the circuit. I can only assume that is what's happening though. I think that is the process these day's where the driver is giving verbal feedback to the Performance Integration Engineer while driving the car at higher loads. A direct transfer of driver input while it's happening. Can't get any better than that.

Let's say it is a ZR1 with more HP, improved cooling and additional aero. If so, do you think GM will keep the 2018 Z06 as is with the slightly tweaked improvements from 2017 (higher intercooler, etc.) or will they incorporate the extra cooling shown on the Camo Mule into the Z06 as well?
I would like to think that the new front fascia with the added cooling vents and perhaps the higher hood line would also make it's way into the Z06. If not, it's like GM corrected all the cooling issues, added some HP and other performance tricks and decided to call it a different model to bypass the issue.

Rather than saying the former years are flawed and need a retro-fit, GM will bump the power up 5-10% on the Z and announce it will need an upgraded cooling system.
In that way, they can avoid dealing with earlier year's cars while having a Z06 model in the lineup that is sufficiently cooled.

What in the world is going on with the exhaust tips? Looks like they're pointing all over the place and sticking out.

Laguna Seca has some significant noise restrictions. My guess- it looks like extensions to point the noise away from the sensors so they don't need to go off throttle or risk being pulled off the track.

BTW, for those wanting to see the C7.R in action, it competes in the 12 Hours of Sebring this Saturday.
For those who can't go, the race is being broadcasted on Fox Sports 1 at 12:30 PM EST.

Head on over too the C8 forum to see the latest video's of the ZR1 going down the Cork Screw. One video going fast and one video going slow. The slow one really shows the details of the front end well. Again, thanks to SBC and a Stick for posting the videos to his Youtube account. I was very close to the track up at the Cork Screw when taking this video. The ZR1 exhaust is very deep and thunderous which you have to be there to really appreciate it. Much louder than the ZO6. It sounds awesome and reminds me of being near the C7R racing car which also has a ground pounding sound.

DOHC Heads basically bolt-on?

They didn't bump the displacement unless Trump pre-approved them. They aren't running headers and a catback....DOHC!?
