Default New 1/4 mile PB on stock tires

Date night for the Z and me on this pass Wed. at the drag strip. I had previously added a green OEM replacement filter which netted me a 10.70 at 133 on stock tires. I then added a CAI (I won't say which one) and then the Mamo PTB, but car was running too lean as indicated by very clean tail pipes after driving the car moderately hard... a tiny bit of soot in tails as compared to being covered with the black stuff pre-cai only. Out of concern, I had a local turner data log a few passes but not full 1/4 runs. He noted the 02s were working more to keep up with increased airflow created by the CAI and advised I should be alright....WRONG!

About a week ago, I ran the car with the CAI and PTB at the strip and the car went into "reduced power" at the top of 1/4. I coasted to an 11.35 at 119. I left the strip immediately and removed the CAI. I put OEM box back on with green OEM filter. Tail pipes indicate things being back to where I started. So I went back to the same track from one week ago, which is not my favorite... prep in not great at all, just to make sure my lady was not hurt. First pass she went 10.74 at 134.25 with a 1.74 60ft. Second pass, 10.71@ 133.29 with a 1.72 60ft and my New PB with a cool down....10.58 @ 133.77 with a 1.66 60ft.

I am confident that she can post a 10.20 with good air, track prep and tires as she stands with that mph. Just wanted to she my experience with the CAI as well...I would tune my car if I decided to use any of those, as it is too risky. I will not be tuning this one, at least for a while.

Thumbs for the BA C7 Zs

What are the details on your car? M7 A8? Year? Any other mods? Nice runs!

Best,
Gene

You say the green filter netted you a 10.70, but any indication of what it ran before that? In other words, was the green filter good for any ET so far as you can tell.

Your car is putting down some great power and hooking too. Can you post a time slip so we can see incremental times and mph?

Not a good enough reason to not run a CAI. This is hardly definitive proof.

That is really fast! The green filter must free up a decent amount of horsepower! 😀

I think this is good info for everyone to know. Clearly the Green filter adds power due to his 134 mph.

I think those with Ported TB should be weary with a CAI and even more weary if you have a CAI + x pipe + ported TB.

Based off his 2/20 post, he installed the AFE Intake

Just installed AFE and retained the OEM hoses. I noticed the box to be very, very close to coolant hoses...I can get a piece of paper between them. I'm wondering what effect this may have on performance. Also, I noticed my tailpipes are still clean even a few top end pulls. Hopefully it is safe. No codes so far though

Really? I figured for sure it was a 2017. Plenty of guys have CAI, PTB and x-pipe and haven't had any issues. I wonder why his car threw a code? What octane was he running? Any idea. Thanks.
