Default More accolades for Spring Mountain

I was privileged to get to take advantage of the 2-day Corvette driving school on 3/22 and 3/23. I agree with previous posts - it was a fantastic experience! We were able to meet great corvette owners from all backgrounds. Some were thrill seekers and others were "just let me get to know my car" people. The instructors were outstanding, the facilities were great, and the program was top notch. Their instruction demonstrated the awesome capabilities of the car. They taught you more about the car than you ever get at your delivery. They also did a great job of including the guests. My wife enjoyed the rides with the instructors and stayed for all of the program. She now wants to go to the Salt Flats, that is for another day. If you have the opportunilty to attend, treat yourself! It is well worth the time and $.

I'm on the plane coming home right now. We did the 2 days just before you. Great time. Nice to see what these cars are capable of on the track. They handle incredible gforces without breaking loose. Instructors were great. Exceeded my expectations, which were high.
Aside from the track experience, just beautiful out here. It's been a few years since we've been out West. We drove through Death Valley, stayed in the mountains at Mount Charleston, toured the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Caught a great show and dinner in Vegas last night. It's all good

paul, glad you had a great time at spring mountain. Top notch facility and the instructors are great. Let me know if you would be interested in doing any track days. NHMS in May and Palmer in June.

Thanks Ken. I may do that. I've done a little track time in the Viper but really enjoyed flogging their Z06 instead of mine. This track thing is habit forming.
Thanks for the tip on Death Valley and Symphony's restaurant at the Pahrump Winery. My wife and I enjoyed both.

Are you able to drive the autos flat out this time of year or do you still have to manage the heat? It was 111F when I was there so I assume its a bit cooler right now!

We were able to flog them with no restrictions, ***** to the walls. Temps were low 80's day one, low 70's day 2. I ran 2 different M7's and they ran around 215, 220.
Not sure what the autos were running for temps, but heard no complaints about running warm or going into limp mode.

To me, Spring Mountain is the BEST mod that any new Z06 owner can do. All of the staff there were awesome. I did it over a year ago and learned a ton of things that most of us would never figure out on our own.

Default Spring Mountain - Ron Fellows School

So great to see these positive posts. I am going on June 12 and 13 having received my pkg from GM a couple of weeks ago. I was there in 2014 for the three-day program and was blown away. In addition to the many new skills picked up, I have a life-long funny story about how one of the instructors, when having to explain the flags to a group of people that he sensed already understood them, told us that the blue flag is to indicate that "there's a race going on, and you're not in it".

I look forward to meeting more Z06 brothers, and Stingray and GS owners in June.

I'm headed there for a class this Friday and Saturday and I'm psyched. I know other threads have addressed advice for people attending, such as bringing a 32GB SD card, but since several of you have been there very recently, what's your advice?

I attended the March 20-21 session.

Absolutely bring the card, or buy one there for $20, if I remember the price correctly.

I uses mine every session, including the one where the instructors drive the track with you in the passenger seat.

Great aide for reviewing your track session and listening to the instructor comments. The instructors will remind you to turn on the recording.

And, great for proving to your friends that you did over 100 on the track!!!!

On the track: One of the things I took away from this was the enormous grip these cars have, particularly on long sweeping turns. Trust the grip the car has. It takes a while to trust the car until you are sure it won't lose grip. It has alot more than you are willing to give it until you get used to it. Follow the lines the pros take around the track and you will get faster.

Off the track: Try the Pahrump Valley Winery restaurant, Symphony's. It's great. Only a few miles West of the track. The rib eye was great. Death Valley isn't very far West of the track either. Great scenery. This advice was given to me by Ken (Basil 2000) and he was right on.

Have fun

Not sure where to highjack this thread. Hi Paul it was great meeting you and the others. I can't agree more with all that's been said here, the instructors and the facility couldn't be better. My only thought or suggestion, and I don't know how they could squeeze in time for it, bring your laptop and check out the recordings on your SD card. After looking at mine I could better see my mistakes. If I had seen them before hand my last session might have been better.
Headed home on Wed. nice to meet everyone.

Totally agree with using the PDR as a teaching tool. I have looked at mine and am able to connect my driving with the instructor comments, including steering angle, accelerator and braking.

During real time on the track it's tougher to put it all together.

Also the PDR for the Instructor Laps is a great teaching tool.
