Justifying the upgrade charge to Z06
The j57 rebate has my wheels turning to magically make my 2015 z51 turn into a 2017 Z06... but I'm struggling with the final number because of sales tax in Michigan is painful for trading in. (Pay it on full price of new car)
My biggest struggle is I ordered my z51 and I don't want many things different. The black comp seats would be the same in the new car and I fee like after a couple weeks the street driving aspect would be nearly identical since the interior and what not are all the same
I would be going from a 1LT m7 z51 to a 2LZ m7 Z07 for just under 40k. For those of you that have done similar... worth it in driving experience?
Foolish as it sounds, the standing in the garage and staring at all her beauty seems to be my biggest motivating factor, I don't have the time to heavily track a car in the summer. I had intentions of tracking my Z51 and in nearly 2 years I haven't turned a single lap!

Why not consider a Grand Sport if, and correct me if I'm wrong, it is all about appearance? As discussed, the interior will appear exactly the same.

If I had the choice two years I probably would have bought the GS, however the past two years owning my Z has been a ton of fun. Having 650hp is pretty stupid but life is short, have fun and you will laugh and giggle like a little boy each time you drive it!

No regrets, power, interior upgrade well worth the pain
If you Don't do the Z06 now, the $$$$ difference will only grow
A GS would only be a stopgap, the body but not the power

I traded in my '15 M7 Z51 with 20k miles for a slightly higher optioned spec ordered 2LZ M7 Z06 and am extremely happy with the swap. Cost me roughly $35k out the door. I say if u can find the ideal optioned car go for it!

Since you're in Michigan, have you checked out Les Standford Chevrolet? I got my ZO6 there for about 11 thousand under the sticker price. That was their advertised price, meaning that I didn't need to play any games with them to get that price, and they didn't try to jack me around when I showed up prepared to pay their advertised price.

I went directly from no Vette to a Z. After 6 years of looking without buying. My wish list started with used a used C6GS, to Stingray, to Z06.
The first question is what do you mean by driving experience? I drove a Stingray, and although impressed, was not floored by the performance. The Z on the other hand has higher smiles per mile for me personally. It is primarily the raw power and intoxicating sound. Those who say they can't enjoy 650/650 on the street wouldn't understand. I floor it at least once every time I drive it.
That being said, $40k is a big number. Though I'd encourage you do redo the math. Add up what you paid for the Z51, plus $40k, subtract depreciation for two years of driving. If you're close to MSRP for a new Z, or even $10k over... it's not that bad of a deal.
Compare that to someone that spent sticker on a 2015 2LZ, say $85k. You end up "paying" total $95 to $100k for a 2017 2LZ? But now you have a zero miles car with upgraded lid, bricks, cooler, CarPlay / Android Auto, etc.
Is that a better deal or worse? Only you can decide. But I'd like to know what you think!

Face it, there is no way to ever justify a corvette much less eating it on your regular old stingray to upgrade to the king of power. That said, you said you already drove them all so you know darn well that the Z walks all over that measly slow stingray....LOL The real question is do you want to pay 40 grand and eat it on the trade of the stingray? Guess you should have waited for the Z to begin with...

I traded in my 2014 3LT Stingray for a 2017 2LZ Z06 and am very happy with the trade based on what I now have versus what I had. Paid the $40K difference and never looked back.

So if I take the OTD price of my 2015 Z51 and add the OTD price to get into the Z06, I am $500 over sticker price on the 2017 2LZ. Not terrible, but still a lot of money!
I guess we all choose the Corvette world because you think of it as a $50k entry, and once that turns into $100k it complicates the justification..
