Default A8 transmission issues

i have a 2017 ZO6 A8 it shifts like mush in sport mode. It feels decent in track mode but not perfect. It feels like it is a CVT transmission sometimes. Has anybody else experienced this? I am going to take it to the dealer. Does it sound like a programming issue or a major transmission issue? Thank you

How many miles do you have on the car? Sometimes these cars need a number of miles for the tranny to learn

They don't seem to hammer the shifts like a built performance automatic. It's probably to put less stress on drivetrain, and aid in maintaining traction during a shift.

2000 miles. My 2015 Stingray shifted very snappy in sport mode. I drive it very spirited. So disappointed in the transmissions shift quality. Very mushy shifting in sport mode.

Something doesn't sound right. Hopefully you're not starting down the problematic road, but that's what warranty's are for.

What % throttle would you estimate you're at when it gives you a soft shift?

100 percent throttle or 50 percent throttle in sport mode it still shifts mushy. I have an appointment at the dealer this Thursday.

This is too vague for me. its mushy. wtf.

I have a 15 A8 z06 and my complaint is shifts are ok but they dont bang instantly in Sport Mode. I always use the A8 with paddles fyi. there is a tiny delay but I guess worse it does not automagically shift down that fast when your slowing from speed so I DS manually with the paddles again which is very fast. I noticed my 8spd ZF in the bimmer I just bought is way way faster and its not even a DC !.

Again the A8 is acceptable but not anyway as fast as a PDK or a DCT in a ferrari or even a CLA-45

btw - are you using the paddles or full Auto ? I never use full Auto. Just not enough control anyway.

If you would like me to define mushy for you. Very smooth almost imperceptible shifts even under hard acceleration. After switching thru different modes and going to the dealer. The car is snappier than ever with much improved firm shifts under spirited acceleration. There must have been a software bug that was resolved. So no complaints now. Very happy with the car.

I'll preface this post by saying I absolutely love the A8 in my Z. It's a smart transmission - if you're not driving the **** out of the car, it's not going to shift hard. When you're into the throttle and performance shift is active, the upshifts are unbelievable. I've definitely never experienced a 'mushy' shift from my A8.

BUT: One of the biggest disappointments to me about the A8 isn't the transmission itself but the tuning of it. How is it that in regular auto mode the transmission "tuning" doesn't change when you switch from tour to sport mode?? It makes no sense to me.

I had a BMW M235i with an A8 for a while and when you would put it into sport mode it would drop at least one gear in almost every situation. It made the car feel 10x more responsive by having it a little higher in the RPM range at all times. A Z06 should NEVER see 8th gear in sport mode. Never. There's not a single excuse for it. Fuel economy? Nope.. car gets the gas guzzler tax anyway so it's not like you're benefiting there. If the A8 avoided and that was part of it then I could understand. There's not a single good reason why in a 650HP supercar the trans has me in 8th gear in sport mode @ 65MPH.

Luckily there's a solution (2 of them) that are located right behind the steering wheel so it's not a big deal at all. Just something that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

The shifts are faster in my Audi's A8 ZF. The A8 in my GS is okay, but a little soft. Sounds like OP problem solved, which is interesting because sometimes wiht mine I don't know if its working normal or abnormal.

lol. I guess you mean drive in manual mode which I do 100% of the time in both the Vette and the bimmer. Even then it seems less fast than the m235i which I just bought. That zf 8 speed is ridiculous and drops gears while in manual mode very fast. I mean I saw it DS so quick while the A8 in the Vette takes its time. People say the ZF is slower then a DC but the bimmer feels like a DC to me whereas the A8 in the Vette does not. Just my 2 cents.

Soft throttle inputs will give you soft or " lagging " shifts. Hard throttle inputs will give you hard and quick shifts. Virtually no lag. Period. Btw, when in manual mode, and downshifting, if you just hold down the shift paddle it will automatically drop to the lowest possible gear. No need to keep tapping it one by one to get to a lower gear.

Still comparing to the M235i which shifts at 150Msec and feels like a DC to me. I dont think the A8 is nearly as good.

The M235i 8 zf 8 speed really bangs shifts and shifts down faster too then the A8 without intervention. I think its vastly superior then the A8 in the Vette imho.

Just my 2 cents.
