Default Show me/tell me about your Lift

I have my 17 GS ordered TPW 5/15 . Even before I ordered my new C7. I was planning on adding to my garage, but recently thought about raising ceiling height in existing garage and getting lift . Mostly concerned about getting all our vehicles in garage during winter months. I never had lift and was wondering about other peoples thoughts about lift to solve my storage problem. I'm thinking 4 post lift would be better were suspension would not be hanging down for long period of time. Thanks in advance for your opinions. Dave

I have a bendpak hd9 and have had no issues with it. Assembly was straight forward. My 96 grand sport sits atop it most of the time. I do ocasionally put the Z on top and can easily do so with a 6' 2×12 on each side and under the ramp. My car has full aero and is at stock suspension height.

The standard width bendpack would work... but it would be very tight on a wide body C7. I reccomend the wider hd9

Good luck

Thanks, You answered two of concerns , 1 regarding aero , 2 regarding width of GS . One question I just thought of do the approach ramps that fold down to ground do they get tucked in some how when lift is in the air or can they be lifted off for more clearance .

The ramps are held in place by a steel rod. Leaving them in place will be dependant on the space and ceiling height you have. If left in place they hang down at about a 45° angle

I take mine off because i dont get my grand sport down very often and they hang in my way. They are heavy but have small wheels to assist moving them around if need be

I have 3 of the bendpak hd9's I would recommend the xw (wide version) . I have busted the yellow plastic covers on my standard width. My darling wife doesn't always keep me in the middle , while getting on the lift.

Standaard 4 post 7000 lb lift. First picture is it installed in a 12.5 foot ceilinged garage in my old house in Az. Note I had the door hung so it opened straight up. Second picture is it in my garage in San Diego. A lot more room. Do note Big Butt, my JSB C6Z, kinda was tight on it. About the same with the C7Z. It fits but I need to take care putting the car on it. The good news is that the standard 110 volt 7000 # 4 post lifts are reasonably priced.

Wife's old car with my Mechanic Helper, George sitting around doing very little to help as usual.

I also have a Bendpak HD9. The optional aluminum (light weight) ramps are great. I also have a pair of RJ45 rolling jacks. Pricey, but really convenient...especially with the accessory kit. BTW, the 115 VAC version is plenty fast for a hobbiest.

I also have a Bendpak four post lift and love it. Problem is I ordered it well before I got the C7 and did not get the extra wide version. You will need that to get a C7 on without rubbing the tires on this bracket.

I have a Bendpak assymetrical frame lift (with arms) as opposed to a parking type lift. I wanted to be able to change wheels from track to street, etc. If you are primarily parking on it I don't recommend this type. I do, at times, leave the car "hanging" for weeks and have not noticed any adverse effects. Does it damage a vehicle to "hang"?

My ceiling height was 10' 5".I was able to angle the end of the door tracks about 4 inches. Just an idea if things are tight.

My ceiling is just under 11 feet. I moved the overhead door tracks closer to the ceiling. 4 posts are great for stacking cars and for routine oil changes. I also have a jacking tray for wheel work. Mine is a Teclift 7,000 pound. Very similar to the Bendpack. I've had it about 10 years with zero issues. Z06 fits fine on it.

I have a Mohawk A7 that I'll mention only briefly, as it's a two-post and for storage you likely want a four-post. I'll just mention the things that made me select it, as they may be attributes you look for you in your own:

- Made in USA
- Certified by OSHA
- Certified by Lift Association (whatever it is, I forget)
- Sturdy as heck

Only thing I don't like about mine, and it's minor, is you have to walk around to unlatch both safeties (one per side) before lowering it. It does force you to walk around the car before lowering it though, which could be a safety feature.

Another happy Bend Pak owner here!! Purchased the HD9W so that I would have the extra width for clearance. My ceiling is 10'-6" high and the garage door tracks are raised tight to the ceiling. The C7 Z06/07 and the Camaro ZL1 both fit on the lift nicely with no issues. It sure makes oil changes and other maintenance work so much easier!!
Highly recommended Bend Pak!!

Hi Dave--
There are a lot of good lifts available. I went with a Direct Lift Pro Park 8s in 2012 and have been happy with it. There are many pictures of my installation and garage in the garage lift section of my albums--just click on my avatar. No problems. My criteria was that I wanted to maximize space between the posts yet minimize the overall width so my wife's car had the most room. Also, I did not want to rely on an air compressor to activate safety catches; mechanical ones are fine. My garage is 21'x21'x10' high at the door. (The height you need is partly dependent on the height of the two cars that will be using the lift. I have a 5' tall car (BMW 5sries) and a 4' tall car (Corvette). Works fine, although I did have to raise my garage tracks to within about 6" of the ceiling to get the door high enough when open. Also a big help for me was that my garage door is 18' wide, not the standard 16'. Allowed me to have the car to one side of the centerline to provide more wife car room. I located my lift close to the garage door to provide room upfront for refrigerator and tools, but that means I have to have ramps outside when I swap cars. And I strongly suggest you invest in some Race Ramps. The standard steel ones that came with mine weigh about 70 pounds apiece! Glad to answer any questions you might have. In 2012 the 8S cost me $2,195 and I paid $900 for freight and professional installation. Also bought a 90 degree mounting bracket for the motor and pump to mount it between the posts rather than out to the side, as I had only about 22" between the wall and the lift. Ran surface mount conduit on the ceiling for electrical to keep cords off the floor. As for practicality, I use it for storage of the Corvette in the winter November to April but then swap cars anytime the weather changes. If the sun is out, the Z06 is down. Typically takes about five to seven minutes to swap cars. As someone noted, the Z06 track is a little wider than the ramps so a bit of the tires are slightly off the edges. No problem from a support or safety standpoint. Don't know about the track width of the GS. --Bob

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I was off of work today so I decided to do some measuring First I currently have a 2 1/2 car attached garage. I have attic space above garage and can have cross support braces added to enable the ceiling height to be high enough . Problem is the vehicle I want to store under lift is pick up and is 80 inches wide and it seems most of the lifts space between the to post is around 70 inches . Wife's SUV 75 inches. Lastly even if I found a lift with greater space between post it will be tight for other car due to steps coming form house to garage. Thinking adding to garage might be the best way to solve storage problem. Who knows I could always add a lift to new garage and have more floor space. Thanks again for all the suggestion and thoughts, Dave

BendPak HD-9XW with 13' Ceilings - the width of Lift is the same as my 3rd Garage Door,
Z06 fits under and on top without folding Mirrors. And it's ~220" long, so I could park a Tahoe under it.

I have 4 different types of lifts, another thing I forgot to mention is the 4 inch increment in latch lock positions. With critical distances, being able to lift 4 inches instead of 6.I know that some people do not like the AIR safety locks. I have both types from different manufactures. And I,usually have the compressor on for one reason or another. One of my lifts the manufacture is no longer in business. I have had it about 15 years and needed a cable pulley it was a pain to locate. Bendpak is a large builder of lifts,I had a warranty problem no questions sent me a new part, just wanted the old one, which they paid return shipping.

Hey Dave, don't hesitate about raising the ceiling and getting that lift. That's what I did and should have done it long ago. I got a screamin deal on a used Backyard Buddy 4-post lift on Craig's List, one of the best and most expensive lifts out there-american made. Take caution when cutting to your roof rafters, you need to allow for extra support. Enjoy your new GS, Save the Wave
