Default Red shift paddles, red belts, red Jake = twice as fast!

First thanks to those who shared their install pix. Made it as easy as it could be....which was not really easy. Very time consuming.

Here's the threads I used for pix.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...th-photos.html

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...to-2014-a.html

What I learned.

Paddles - 30 minutes, but 20 minutes is spent on the airbag:

1) Disconnect battery and wait 10 mins

2) Push Allen wrenches into the holes on either side of steering wheel 'stalk'

3) You really need another person to pull back on the bag as you push the wrenches in

4) You need to push the wrenches in WAY harder than you think, it helps to wear gloves and wrap the wrenches with a rag

5) You pull the bag pretty hard, but remember it's wired so not too hard
***If you're by yourself you can orient the wheel and use a knee to push one Allen wrench in from the bottom.

6) After the airbag is loose, simply use a trim tool to remove the steering wheel bezel. Start from the bottom.

7) Once out you'll see the two screws. Unbolt, disconnect and remove.

8) Simply reverse and the paddles are done.

Seatbelts - About 2 hours but mine took 3 due to not having the right torx bit:

1) BEFORE you disconnect the battery (not even sure it's necessary bwth), remove your targa top, open both doors, open the hatch and move the seats as far forward as you can. You're going to need the room.

2) MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS. Buy the cheap trim removal tool set from Harbor Freight for $8.99, you'll thank me later. You'll also need 2 Torx bits. A T-30 bit for rear hatch hook and lower seat belt mount and a T-47 torx bit for the upper seat belt mount. My set went up to 30, 47 is pretty damned big. The bolt may even be a T-49, but the 47 fit without scarring the bolt so I proceeded.

3) Remove the panels in the order of the link above. Rear side panels are really easy and are first. I then sat on the center console facing back and removed the sides and center of the targa 'hoop'. The center section is a beast. Then you go to the sides/sills and remove. Now everything is removed and you're ready to R/R the seat belts.

This is what you'll be staring at. If it doesn't scare you a little bit than you are truly handy. LOL

4) The seat belt mechanism (see link above) has 4 mounting points. The T-47 torx bolt holds the belt, the mechanism is a 15mm hex head nut (I recall), the belt anchors to the seat with a T-30 torx bit and finally there's a plastic push anchor.

5) All of the bolts, nuts come off pretty standard, no surprises. Then you will be down to the connectors. There are 2 on the passenger side and 1 on the driver's side. The two common connectors have an orange circular piece that you lift up with a flathead screwdriver. DO NOT mess with with yellow portion of the connector. It holds the wires in place and is fragile. Once the orange piece is UP, you can simply lift the connector up. The second connector is another standard connector, use a flathead to lift one side and it disconnects very easily.

6) The new seat belts are easy to orient as it only goes on one way and the L side R side is easy because the passenger side has to connectors so impossible to mix them up. It's also easy to figure out how to route the belts, just reversing, first through the B pillar panel and then finally through the door sill panel, mount to seat and done.

I know this isn't all the detail you need, but it's more than I had. The threads above do a good job of showing you what's in store and the basics behind getting there. Hopefully my little tips can help others willing to tackle this. My dealer wanted around $350 to install the paddles and belts which I thought was reasonable. After doing it myself I'm glad I did as I understand now how the interior fits together. But I also think that $300-$350 is a fair price given the work involved.

So here she is. 3LZ interior, red stitching, carbon fiber, now with red belts and red paddles. And oh yeah, red Jake.

Did you paint the console stitching on the cover red because I ordered red stitching package on my 2017 Z06 TPW 5/15/17and was told the lid only came in gray stitching so my console Z06 lid defaulted .

Looks great. Thanks for the detailed installation information. I anticipate another 35 HP increase based on color alone!

Default Red shift pedals

funny I have an order in for an 18 ZO6 -- the new white with black interior - red stiching. Got talked into red seat belts and I guess the paddles.
I always thought you try to hide the belts. Red does not do that.
Car also had red calipers with ceramic brakes and blk wheels with red stripe. Oh well. Harvey

I like the red belts and paddles with the black leather 3LZ interior with C/F dash and red stitching. I looked at the red interior, but just couldn't do it. On another note the dealer had a new A10 ZL1 in the showroom today. Red belts with red stitching sure looked nice.
