Z06 A8 won't rev in Park
This is probably a dumb question, but why is it that after I start my 2016 Z06 A8 I can't rev the engine past about 3500 rpm? It just stops reving even though I have plenty of room left in the throttle pedal. This happens whether I'm in Park or Neutral. Can someone help my feeble brain? Thanks

Let the engine warm up a bit before you rev it. This is what destroys most engines of all types. It's not water temp, but OIL temp that really matters! I guess after the LS7 issue finally G.M. got smart and installed this program to protect the engines from falure.

I have never understood this purposeful abuse of an engine by trying to rev it to redline with no load. The rate of engine RPM increase is very fast with no load and if the normal redline limiting mechanism were in use it would likely allow significant overshoot before reacting. Even in first gear the rate of increase is much slower.

Funny but true...
I had a small crowd around my car once asking the normal questions and someone asked me to rev the engine for everyone to hear.
Although I'm not a show-off by nature, I said, "Sure."
Needless to say, it wasn't too impressive because of the rev limiter.
At the time, I was unaware of having one.
No one was terribly impressed...my face got a little red.

"Let's hear it!"
Knowing free-revving in neutral isn't the hot ticket, I waited for the light and then planted it for about 2 seconds. Didn't even likely break the speed limit, but the sound, especially in the open convertible and with the Corsa pipe, was epic between the two buildings. I think I scared him!

I was in "canyon" between two large condo developments yesterday, sitting at a light. Guy from his balcony yelled
"Let's hear it!"

And that is a point a lot of people miss. The engine and exhaust, especially with a LT4, won't really sing until it is producing the power it was designed to produce.

It isn't really memorable until it's above 4500 RPM.
GM's smallblock has never done much for me aurally.
IMO, it comes up short compared to Ford and Dodge.
The GM doesn't have the personality of the other 2 (if that makes any sense).
