Thinking of trading my Z for a Camaro ZL1 1LE

The ZL1 is nice, but I recently had my Z06 parked next to one at the dealership and I'm sorry but there's just no comparison. On top of that I personally couldn't see trading down from a Corvette to a Camaro, but that's just me. As the above poster said it's easy to spend someone else's money, but when it comes to spending my own the ZL1 was not even a consideration.

I would go for it as well. You've fully experienced the Z and I think getting something new and fresh will be exciting. Good luck with your choice and keep us posted. The ZL1 1LE is a bad bitch.

I was at an event at VIR a couple of weeks ago and it was an all gm event. There was a white ZL1 there that was as fast as anything on the track that day. It did make a short excursion into the grass but there was a slick spot on the track and he made the smart move to hit the grass instead of the wall. I was really impressed with it. More so after watching it run. What the heck life is short. Go for it! Keep us posted on how it does.

My opinion, for what it's worth: I'm with the "Don't Do It!" crowd. Hang on to your existing, and purchase an extended warranty if you're really concerned about such things. When it's time for the bigger/better/badder Vette, go after that.
Remember how we finally met in person? It was at Summit Point and I was doing one of the Cadillac events in my then new 2009 CTS-V. I thought that car would be a God-send compared to the very unforgiving 2007 Z06 that I was driving around. And I knew how much work GM had done to make the CTS-V track-ready, having a buddy or two that worked on that project.
The thing is, when I spoke with one of my GM buddies about it (chassis controls engineer in the V), he said, quite frankly, "You're not going to like it as much as your Vette. It's not going to be the same thing on the track." Then Short-Throw called me at home and told me the exact, same thing, "Jason, don't do it. You're not going to like it as much. It's not a bad car in any way at all. You're just not going to be as happy in it as you are in a Vette."
Both men were spot on. I never had anything bad to say about the V, it just didn't fit me as well as a Corvette does. So I migrated back to the Vette with my 2010 ZR1.
That all cost me an arm, a leg, and a left nut. I know you print your own money, and when you run low you visit the money tree in your back yard to plug a few branches off. But still: you're going to be spending a cubic f*ckton of money to do this and then upgrade to the next Vette. I wouldn't bother.
Just hang tight.

I say to go for it and enjoy! Obviously, nothing is permanent when it comes to cars. In 2 1/2 years trade-up for a C8.

It's not a downgrade in the traditional sense. he's contemplating it to have the experience. for that reason and that reason ONLY i support your experiment!
get it and enjoy then come back after say 6 months and report your honest comparison of the two on the track. imho, the ZL1 1LE still won't be able to hold a candle to the Z06. center of gravity alone is going to change the transition feel, I bet it feels stable on same turns as the Z06 but not as planted. like putting bigger stickier tires on a tall car and throwing it around a corner you just ran in the vette which devoured it. the camaro makes it but not as smooth feeling as the vette. been that way for as long as i can remember lol

As long you don't pay markup for ZL1 1LE I would say do it. You already put good track miles on your 2015 Z06. If it was 2017 I would have told you to stick with Z06.
Run the camaro at the track for couple of years and then get 2019 or 2020 ZR1 after the hype is over and dealers sell them at discount.

Own Both
Owning both is the best of both worlds. It is a toss up; which one is best. When I drive the Z06 I love it, when I drive the ZL1 I love it. If you are going to do a lot of track I would go for the ZL1, if a Sunday driver and fun car then the Z06. Tough decision!!

Melting Slicks
The ZL1 is more of a sports car if anything. Yeah it's not super light, but it handles well and makes a lot of power. The ZL1 1LE is near supercar levels of performance. It's something like 3 seconds faster than a regular ZL1 at Milford. The car has stickier tires, aero, and suspension technology from Formula 1. If that doesn't sound like a sports car, I dont know what does...

Exactly. I'm completely stunned that in the Z06 section of this forum so many people are saying to move from a Corvette to a Camaro. What kind of crazy *** alternate universe did I just step into?

These comparisons can get silly sometimes. It's like you have a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan with 15000 hard miles and want to trade to a 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo with 20 miles. Why step down when you already have the best Chevy has to offer. I would have bought the budget ZL1 to if I was concerned about money. Instead I bought a 2017 badass Z06 the true super car America has to offer. This is a corvette forum not a Camaro forum.

It's not that big of a step down to go from a Z06 to a ZL1 1LE. Yeah you're giving up some performance, but I'm sure the cars aren't too far off of each other in terms of lap times.
Also, who ever mentioned money? Sean (Poorsha) said in his original post he wants the ZR1, but possibly wants the 1LE in the mean time since his bumper to bumper warranty is almost gone in his Z06 and he tracks his car heavily.
I wish more people could appreciate more than only the car they own...
