A fluke mechanical failure engulfed this Corvette in flames, leaving the owner helpless.

That rail thing on the left side looks like a road sign or an odd guard rail...that would start a fire at any speed.

Side impact door beam. Another reason why these cars keep getting heavier.

It looks like fire started at the right front. I agree about the guard rail looking thing, also the thing that looks like a wheel next to it. Maybe he ran over something and it punctured an oil/gas line. Isn't the oil tank right next to the right front wheel?

Yep..........and nothing between it and the wheel other than the cloth fender liner (and the TCM).

Local guy, hopefully he gets back on the road soon.

This is what insurance is for. It's just a car.

saddens me to see owner saying this.. but I guess can you blame him?

My shop is just down the road from that seen. Heard it had something to do with a wheel - tire blowing out and taking the shock and lines with it. I go this message sent to me just before I was going on the track last week. Not good timing!

Good idea don't deny that but would guess you'd have a snow ***** chance of fighting this fire with a hand held extinguisher....... and frankly why would you take the risk?

If he saw a small amount of smoke maybe he'd get lucky and put it out....but only with luck.

The way the RF tire is shredded, I'd say it failed while the car was in motion and took out something flammable.

I'm with this guy for sure. These aren't classic cars and I'm certainly not risking my life for it. Take your insurance check down to the dealership and pick up a new one...

...or in his case, down to a competing dealership

Sometimes I think about a side impact in one of these. Imagine being T-Boned by an F-350. You've got a piece of glass and an airbag between you and that F-350's grille. Gives me the ******* to think about it.

Then again, even my 1969 Pontiac Laurentian has "Side door impact beams", so they must have had something in Vettes for a while now... though it probably indeed has been getting heavier.

A 160 t-stat would not have helped that much.

Lol. If my car started going up?? I'd fan the flames.... No WAY I would want to deal with that aftermath and diminished value... No thank you.
