C7 Z06 A8 whine when accelerating
Just picked up 2016 Z06 with 9k miles. Driving it home noticed a whine noise when ever I was giving the car gas, when I let up on accelerator the sound stopped. Called the salesman the next day and he claims noise coming from supercharger. I'm sure someone has heard this before, thank you in advance.
Also live in Fox Valley area of Illinois near Aurora, can anyone recommend a good dealer with mechanics that are good with Corvette's?

That would be the supercharger, look at your boost gauge when you hear the noise.

Need more specifics. Where is the noise coming from? Engine area or the rear of the car. If it's coming from the engine area the car has a supercharger that will whine under acceleration.

Does the whine only occur in moderate to hard acceleration? If so then you are probably hearing the supercharger as the engine RPM increases; if not a noisy rear end is one possibility when it whines only under load.
But the supercharger in the Z06 is very quiet and some people complained about the lack of a whine. I have a GMC Duramax diesel pickup and its turbocharger whine (and the cold fluid sound of the Allision auto) are very audible but only a couple of times have I noticed any supercharger sound in my 2016 Z06.

I've just started noticing a whine as well at 6K miles... high pitched, could be the SC...but I've never noticed it before, and it sounds like it's from the rear. ...Normal, or maybe a low diff fluid issue?

For Connman, who's hearing it from the rear: Does it change with load? Like if you coast, there's noise, but if you apply throttle, it goes away? That would be a sign of the differential starting to go. Mine went at 5000.
If you're hearing it from the front, it's the blower, and that's normal.

I agree, mostly likely it's differential going out. The noise will get louder by time. The sales person is not the right person to ask but he should connect you with warranty or service manager. Most likely they will replace it under warranty.

It sounds similar to SC whine, but odd that I'm just now noticing it - and that it sounds to be coming from the rear.
Maybe it's just paranoia after reading too many rear diff under-fill threads...

Although there have been some severe diff under-fill cases early in production most reported recently are within range or very close. And the majority of differential noise isn't from low fluid fill but instead improper setup when the diff assembly was built and supplied to GM.
Poor break-in can also contribute to a later noisy differential but this is less likely with a Z06 unless it was truly abused early on since the differential is cooled. A brand new differential generates a lot of heat during initial operation which is why excessive road speed should be avoided for the first 200 miles and several cool down breaks are a good idea. It is also a good idea to change the differential fluid early (around 1,000 miles is a good point) since there will be significant wear materials in the fluid which is a lot worse than fluid simply being a few ounces low.
Any noise in the rear end should be diagnosed and taken care of early in the warranty period.

It's the rear diff, I just bought a 2016 Z06 A8 with 10k miles on it and had the rear diff replaced due to whine, under load at 65 MPH and above it would whine when you let off of the gas it went away it was loud enough to hear over the radio. Took it in and the head Corvette Mechanic verified it, he said he has done about 8 of them 9 now. The new diff is nice and quiet.

I completely agree with the likelihood it's a differential problem....they whine like hell when there's an issue. Never ever heard a S/C whine from my X06....maybe a Hellcat but not a stock Z06.

they ordered the rear end.took about 10 days to get the part in.they wanted me to leave the car.i said no way.will drive car until part comes in.if rear end went while waiting for new part no big deal, was going to be replaced anyway.after part came in dealer had car 2 days.7500 miles later no problem.this is the reason you do not want to tune your car just to get a few extra horses.factory warranty is very important because you never know what could happen.these cars are very costly to fix if their is a problem.

Another great A8 issue. Now we know the reason it only had 9K miles. The original owner saw the mass failure coming his way.
