Fuse #42 question 2016 Z06
I have read many posts on the forum about pulling the #42 fuse on a 2016 Z06. I understand that is supposed to make the exhaust stay loud all the time. I pulled it yesterday and it appears to have done nothing at all. I am looking for the exhaust to sound like it does after a 12 hour cold start every time I start the engine. What am I missing?

Same observation for me. I pulled the same fuse on my Z06 and honestly can't tell any difference. My rear center two exhaust tubes look as clean as ever!

The 2 center pipes (actually there are only 2 pipes that split inside the muffler cans) are routed thru the muffler with all it's sound deadening material. When outboard valves are open the majority of exhaust gases are thru them thus louder by not routing thru the actual mufflers. This is also why center pipes stay very clean compared to outside ones since their exhaust is "cleaned up" by going thru muffler material. P.S. 2Vettes, there are no valves in the back (affecting sound) center pipes, they are free to enter the muffler material area always.

You don't need to pull a fuse. If you want the exhaust at its loudest, not just a wide open throttle (WOT) you can set that up in preferences. My dealer did that for me. With the center two pipe baffles closed and staying clean, it is at its loudest. I have had it set this way since new 2 1/2 years ago. Now has over 17,000 miles on it that includes road trips to Carlisle, Bowling Green and California from Boston's south shore.

Pulling the fuse
Hi all, there is some incorrect information being discussed here I am afraid. The car on start up aways sounds a bit meaner and you probably need to change exhaust to a akropovic system to get that all the time. Not pulling the fuse is NOT the answer as the valve will still close at certain rpm points if you just use the info center on car. YES...YES...YES... you will lose flexibility to choose exhaust note while driving. If you like it in track exhaust mode...this is what you must do. In the fuse box there is storage for extra fuses. Keep it their for safe storage. Here is what people are missing...due to noise pollution big brother government regulations on noise control..the valves close when just set by info screen. Your two outside pipes will always show soot the worst and this is normal. Here is a simple mod that if you don't like...put the fuse back no harm no foul.

You also know, if the settings are right in the info center and pulling the #42 fuse, when your car starts to come off high idle at initial cold start and exhaust note still sounds aggressive. If the sound quiets substantially down after high idle then you don't have the setting right and/or proper fuse pulled.

I have a 2016 Z06/Z07 and pulled fuse #42 the first day I bought it. The exhaust flaps stay open all the time and that sweet sound never changes!!

Yes, pulling fuse #42 will cause the valves to stay open all the time, regardless of the settings in the Engine Sound Management or the Mode Select dial.
The louder, cold start idle exhaust note you hear is due to the engine pulling negative timing in the tune at startup. It eventually reduces the negative to a positive as the engine warms and the car settles to it's normal idle. It is very brief.

The problem is there are 2 sets of baffles. Fuse 42 disables the ones located at the tail pipe. There is another set of baffles further toward the engine. Those baffles have another fuse. The problem pulling that fuse I have been told is it will set a code. So I don't think you can pull it.

That's not true for the Z06. My old Stingray did occasionally close the valves even in the "wide open" mode, so it was necessary to pull the fuse. With the Z06, track mode keeps it open all the time. You never get the sound suddenly clipped at lower RPMs with the Z06. No need to pull the fuse.

Yours does too. Yours is not different than everyone else's and mine is not either.
Both cars had/have headers as well and it makes it much more obvious when they are open or closed, btw.
