Driving updates/thoughts w/bolt-on's along w/60-130 results & pulls w/ALPHA 9 GTR
Hi all,
My car now has just under 1500 miles on it - took delivery 5/6. I have an A8 Torch Red Z w/ Black wheels and while it felt great stock, the stumble/stutter was quite annoying especially when you wanted to give it some gas but not ***** to the wall gas.
Fast forward to this week and I headed down to my pals at ECS (East Coast Supercharging) for some bolt ons and also changed to Power Stop Z26 pads and wanted to give the overall impressions now as I have added approx 250 more miles.
I will start with the Z26 pads - this is a must in my opinion. I have the car full wrapped in XPEL along with a ceramic coating. Basically my car stays clean for weeks at a time because of this combo but the damn wheels would look like hell after 4-5 drives because of the brake dust. Well in 250 miles since driving there is virtually NO dust. For $125 shipped this was a great mod and I am very happy with the stopping power. They are 9/10ths of the OEM pads and I really do just street driving. Braking is still very incredible.
From the power side of things - I now have the car to the limits of what I will do on the stock tune. I have BMS Filter, Tony Mamo Ported Throttle Body, and the Borla X-Pipe.
I want to start with the TM PTB and I know I posted this in a couple other threads but thank god for this. The car now drives much better, the stumble is 90% gone and it makes it so much better to drive because of that. Well worth the $300 in change.
Next is the Borla X-Pipe. Love it! Car simply screams now when you get on it. I mean its LOUD - sounds intoxicating in Sport/Track mode. I love that on start its louder and when you romp on it. In all other types of driving its the same volume as the stock car which is exactly what I wanted. Well worth the $375-400 bux and like I said the car sounds amazing now.
Lastly, tying this all together now with the 3 mods I now have is the BMS Filter. I can say with all 3 of these mods on 93 octane there are no issues and this gave the largest SOTP gains. Its so awesome we have an enthusiast like Terry who made this to help the community out. No fitment issues and a fraction of the price of an intake. Thanks again Terry - love your JB4 and BMS intakes on my various BMWs I own and have owned previously.
Now for some real world results on performance. I don't have a stock 60-130 time but I added some 100 octane fuel and have the 3 mods now. I've seen on threads that the X pipe adds 15-20 whp and the filter is good for around 30 or so. I don't know exactly what I am making with the 3 mods on a dyno but I do have some real world results in similar temps/humidity. Again, I have the A8 trans and have 60-130 times with 100 octane clocked at 6.48 seconds. In addition, I have done some rolls with a buddy who has an Alpha 9 660 whp GTR. With my car stock he would pull on me and I would ever so slightly begin to reel him in around 145 mph or so, however, never got to his bumper. After the 3 mods and running 100 octane, I was able to stay just off his rear quarter panel and at 145+ mph was able to pull along side of him in a dead even race. If we went to speeds above 160 mph my aero (stage 1), and larger motor would definitely pull ahead.

Cool thanks for sharing. My buddy owns Tune Time Performance. On his A8 He picked up almost 60whp from an AFE caiand can of race gas bringing the octane up to around 95. Back to back runs no pulling of timing. Stock tune.
without that car only made 504 and 499 back to back pulling 4* both runs from the start. Even with his dyno being a load bearing mustang we knew something was upand the kr was through the roof. After the cai and gas car put down 560 2x in a row.

Very thorough write up Z0Sick6, very complete. By the title, you would infer that your Z06, slightly modded with bolt ons, could hang in there with an Alpha 9 GT-R, sounds like a stretch to me...quite a big stretch, indeed. I had a 2013 GT-R for several years and had been with and driven an Alpha 9 GT-R on several occasions. No way, no how a slightly modded Z06, with bolt ons, could hang with one of them. An Alpha 9 is one whole another creature of a GT-R family...."awesome" doesn't do that car justice, horsepower in the 4 digit range. No doubt your slightly modded Z06 runs just dandy, but Alpha 9, nope.

Well, I'll spell it out for you. An Alpha9 GTR produces in the 1000 hp range. The engine is completely reworked, most of the internal parts are non stock. As you could read from my link, the parts alone are at $25,000 plus. Your buddy can call it an Alpha 9, but it isn't or it's badly beat up. To say your slightly modded Z06 could stay with an Alpha9 GTR is horse manure. Does that clear it up for ya?

I'm thinking it's an Alpha 6 or 7 based on the whp you are saying that GT-R is making. I've seen the Alpha 9 run and a bolt on Z06 with 100 Octune tune is not going to keep up with it.

You guys actually loading a race tune/100 octane tune, or are you adding the higher octane and allowing the computer to adjust on its own / pull less timing?

Turn Up The Power With An Alpha Forged Engine And Transmission
While the Alpha 9 on the stock motor is a force to be reckoned with making 800hp on pump gas there is even more on the table. By adding one of our forged motors and transmissions the Alpha 9 power potential is increased to 950+ hp on pump gas and 1050+ on race gas! Now you have even more power at your disposal and enough to embarrass even the most exotic of supercars.

At the track, I've raced a buddy with a 16 GTR with tires and and tune. He runs 10.30s. I have pretty much the same mods as the op plus Hoosiers and am two tenths slower than the GTR. He traps 133 to my 132.

Hmmm...the Corvette faithful is ganging up on me! Don't forget, gentlemen, I DO own a '16 Z06 and DO really like that car! But as we want to argue the capabilities of a slightly modded C7 Z06 vs. an Alpha 9 GT-R, let's be sure that we are discussing the same animals. The last post by 383vett doesn't compute for me....there was no 2006 GT-R. The R35 GT-R as most of us know it, was released in Japan mid 2007 and a few months later came to the USA as a 2008 model. Prior to that, during the late 90's and up to 2002, there was a Skyline GT-R, to my knowledge not sold in the USA (maybe brought in by an owner, but not sold at a dealership as brand new). The last of those Skyline GT-R's had a straight 6 engine that actually made 330 HP vs. it's advertised HP of 276 (and those are crank HP figures and yes, Wulverine, I do know the difference between crank and wheel HP...parasitic loads, driveline losses, yada, yada...). So 383vett, I really don't know what you raced, a Skyline GT-R or a Nissan GT-R, current R35 design. Next, Mr. Wulverine, you were kind enough to include a YouTube article on the Alpha 9. You do realize, what you have there is a 2009 GT-R with an Alpha 9 package, what vintage Alpha 9 package, I don't know. All at crank HP and stock, the 2008 and 2009 GT-R's were rated at 480 HP, the 2010 and 2011 rated at 485 HP, the 2012 at 530 HP, the 2013 thru 2016 at 545 HP (except the Nismo model at 600 HP) and the 2017 at 565 HP. A 2013 and newer GT-R Alpha 9 produces more everything that a 2009 Alpha 9....considerably quicker. Now, Warp Factor, you are correct and I am wrong, the Alpha 9 package on a stock engine is making around 800 HP, my mistake. Unfortunately, the crazies I knew that had Alpha 9 packages all had the internals of the engine changed over and those cars were animals.
Now, I'm done arguing my point which simply was, it is hard to imagine that a slightly modded C7 Z06 could stay with an Alpha 9, regardless whether the GT-R had the whole enchilada of Alpha 9 changes or the basic recipe....hard to imagine and hard to believe. I've owned both, a 2016 Z06 and a 2013 GT-R and love both of them...they are different, not the same. Both have pluses and minuses, both very fine automobiles. Sorry if I insulted any of you about the capabilities of our Z06's...it is indeed a world class vehicle.
P.S. to Wulverine...I was so busy writing my essay, you pointed out as well that a 2006 GT-R doesn't exist. Thanks, we agree on something!

I've raced my '17 M7 Z06 with just BMS filter against my very good friends FOB '14 GTR E25 gas from 40-140 multiple times and he would constantly slowly pull on me every time by 2/3 cars all the way to 140; we both drive pretty well.
Just saying it's not gonna be easy. FOB GTRs usually trap 133-137 range.
