I agree, touch paint is your friend, my 2016 Z same problem, a tooth pick & touch up paint, I will not let the remove & paint the fender for such a small chip.

I'm hoping the mold fix outlined earlier as well as the new panel alignment process using the Skillet Line procedure in the updated factory will eliminate this problem.

I have not seen any proof that this issue has been resolved.

It has not been resolved and there has been no timeline provided out of Bowling green as to when the newly designed vents will be available. Pretty frustrating to say the least!

Here is a conversation I just had with a contact at Bowling Green on October 11th;

Me;

"Can you kindly update me on what GM is doing for the fix for the Z06 fender side vents where they are digging into the fender paint? This is happening on both sides on my Z06 and I sure would like this to be put right. I have heard through talk on the Corvette forum where you guys are working on a fix with a newly designed vent, but have not heard of any updates on progress for ~2-3 months now."

Them;

"The plan is still the same for the Z06 fender vent. Once the revised fender vent applique is produced and there is enough service stock. A service bulletin will be published."

Me;

"Thank you for the reply, do you have a projected timeframe when this will happen?"

Them;

"I wish I had a time frame I could pass on. All I can say is when the new fender vent appliques are released. The condition will be resolved."

So, there we have it, this is the latest as of October 11, 2017.

Cheers,

-Gaz

I think the 2019s will be built with the new, remodeled vent molds that will tie into the new production process. The big questions is the service bulletin fix for the 2015-2018 model years. The new post-plant re-opening 2018s may already have the fix.

I hope it's taken care of. My B2B warranty runs out in December and I don't want them tearing into this only to have it happen again.

A small fine artist paint brush with GM touchup paint is even better than a toothpick!

your guess would be correct I actually received an update text from a guy from the corvette team yesterday he told me that they'll be a TSB coming out in January for this problem I met him back at Carlisle this year what a great guy and Corvette enthusiast.

if you don't know who he is that's fine trust me there's plenty on this forum about him he's legit.

funny thing is when I went back in this thread I checked my text messages and looked up what the last thing he told me was.. well. he asked me to send him pictures of the vents END OF AUGUST!

I sent him the requested pics yesterday lol..yet he responded that same day few hours later..

boy did I drop the ball. But maybe a blessing in disguise since that's the response from just yesterday.

my guess is some type of modified applique that will extend out a little bit to cover the paint chipping which I would be fine with I really would hate to have to paint. Maybe some type of foam or rubber gasket behind it so that's what rubs against it and not the hard plastic digging in?

What a guy.

Sharing this with you guys he knows I'm on the Forum I've already helped him take care of an issue someone put his private cell phone number up on this website at one point..

He's the man. Ive had communications with him which give me plenty of hope for us in all corvette areas btw. Have faith lol.. mine was tested now and again.. hang in..

Not sure. Kind of worn me down inquiring. Maybe when the weather breaks here I'll dig in some. has to be some type of bulletin by now. Supposedly it was once the new paint booth came on line. Well? Lol

From photos of 2019's the design doesn't look any different, but it requires a closer look to confirm.

You all... I’ll mention this once more. Myself and multiple friends of mine had the same issue. The only fix (which is Simple) is to remove the insert and sand / shave the excess backside plastic. It will fit perfectly , and Not press on the corners of the new paint. It’s so simple a 8 year old with direction could do this. You, your dealer or any reputable body shop can do both vents in about 20 mins. These pieces are durable, don’t be scared to make them slightly smaller on the backside so they fit without rubbing. Or wait for GM’s fix...gd luck.

Makes sense. Can you remove insert without removing fender?
