Carbon ceramic rotors delaminating

Carbon ceramic rotors delaminating
I have a 2015 zo7 with CCBS. I JUST went through more than 70% of pad wear in one long track day.
Upon inspection of the rotors I notice the ceramic surface is actually peeling off the rotor itself. This creates a rough surface and then grates off the pad causing excessive and rapid wear
my car has less than 9000 miles with about ten total track days
I have now worn out three sets of OEM pads
anyone else experiencing the same?
should the rotors be covered under warranty?
thanks everyone

Wear results are all over the board......in my opinion you've done about average on the rotor and pad wear. I seriously doubt you'll get any warrantee coverage.

Have you weighed them to see if they're still within specs? Maybe they've reached the end of their service life.

I got 13 days on my front rotors and went through 2.25 sets of pads. I went through 19 days with my rear rotors and went through 3 sets of pads. The brakes worked great but the cost of replacing them is so painful there is no way they can work well enough to be worth having unless the replacement parts price drops by 70%. The replacement pad cost needs to drop by at least 25% to be competitive. I am using Amazon prices for parts not GM's.
Rotor wear isn't covered under the warranty.

I have been going thru a set of front pads every 4 track days. Now more than before as the CCB rotors get worn some. They still work great.
Question.... I have a customer that may be interested in buying my half worn front rotors and 3\4 worn rears all with pads. The interest is to look cool and lower brake dust on his wax on wax off queen Z. Will my CCB's fit his same year non ZO7? I bet Bill knows this!
If it works this guy will get 10 years or more out of my CCB's on the street!

I believe that to put the carbon ceramic rotors and pads on a non Z07 that you will need to swap on the Z07 calipers as well.
And the non Z07 has some metal "squealers" on the pads that make a squealing noise when the pad is getting thin, but the Z07 has a sensor that installs in the pad, and when the sensor gets worn down it gives a "Service Brakes" alert on the DIC. So....the non Z07 will not have worn brake pad warning.
Otherwise you should be able to swap on the rotors, calipers, and pads so that he "looks good" at the car shows!!

Seems that an average wear of around 4 tracks days on a set of CCB front pads. (Depending on track). And 10-14 days on CCB rotors. Tires are used up after around 4 days on my car at Nola 2.75 mile track. (About 140 laps). Fuel consumption shows 3.7 mph for me. Add in track costs, oil changes, alignment etc and it really gets scary. These fixed costs come to over $10 per mile on track. Certainly over $1000 a track day.

Get some "real" brake cooling and they will last longer. The stock brake cooling is not sufficient for long sessions or really aggressive drivers. I've been through the same on numerous C6 Z07 cars and increasing the brake cooling will make the pads/rotors last 25%-50% longer.
The C7Z is a heavy pig of a car so it's even harder on brakes.

The issue is that no one makes a real spindle duct for this car... The only option just blows on the rotor face. Part of the reason I dumped the CCBs on mine.

I just installed the 2017 Track Bake cooling kit on mine, looks like its going to help a lot.
Amazon just had a sale on Rotors and Pads 20% off, the rotors would change in price day to day, as high as 1700.00 and as low as 1200.00 I bought for 1,000.00 each after discount so not to bad. I picked up three sets of front pads for 375.00 same discount.
This AC Delco discount hits about twice a year, just have to keep checking

Do do you have a part number for the 2017 cooling ducts?
will it work on a 2015?

To the OP,
I had a 2014 Z51 stingray with stock Z51 brakes, I tracked the car hard, brakes worked great and rotors and pads were cheap. Went to my 2016 Z07, I was aware of the enormous cost of the CCB system but was under the FALSE impression that I would get greater endurance out of it. THAT IS TOTAL BS. ALL THE PORSCHE GUYS AND MOST OF US SERIOUS TRACK GUYS on the vette (with a few exceptions) have DUMPED THE CCB system. My experienced mirrored yours. I went thru 3 sets of pads in 6 track days at $1,100 WHOLESALE. My CCB rotors started showing major wear on the inner part of the rotor near the hub, it was gonna cost 6 grand wholesale to replace and I said F*** IT. I went with AP RACING set up (they also supply corvette race team, saw their set up at Road America. The front pads on their endurance set up are an astounding 25mm thick!! No more **** time in the paddocks pissed as hell because I have to change pads after one track day, on a side note 4 track days so far on the AP kit and I can barely see any wear on the pads! Very satisfied customer and they do PERFORM. I have no affiliation with them but I suggest the endurance kit with the biggest pads up front. I kept the CCB for when I sell or trade the car. I was VERY disappointed that this 'track oriented' car had a system that has that little endurance (at least for me) search this forum you will find many have dumped the CCB's. Good luck to you and hope that helps
PS if you are only doing 1 or 2 track days per year, CCB may be fine for you, my car is doing 25 track days this year and early on I learned there is no way with that overpriced BS. Even if it was priced better, I don't want to change pads every two track days, no way

I am also a user and a fan. Excellent brake system.

Hi I'm interested in a rear set z07 carbon rotors if you have a used set?

Question.... I have a customer that may be interested in buying my half worn front rotors and 3\4 worn rears all with pads. The interest is to look cool and lower brake dust on his wax on wax off queen Z. Will my CCB's fit his same year non ZO7? I bet Bill knows this!
If it works this guy will get 10 years or more out of my CCB's on the street!
