Safety Car
It's happened to me on a very regular basis a number of times on track, usually about 10 minutes into a 20 minute session on 90+ degree days. Not that big a deal and I've always continued the session until the end. Sometimes I'd take it easy for a lap and it would come back but go out again shortly thereafter.
Requires some extra "muscle" but manageable. Manageable enough that it didn't even slow me even a 10th of a second/lap.
I've since eliminated the problem by installing the C6Z rear brake duct PS cooling "fix". I've tracked 3 times on HOT days since installing the duct and problem solved. Very happy it only cost ~ $25 fix to resolve. Also, the installation was simple using the available templates.

Burning Brakes
Don't think brake duct fix will fix, car wasn't even warm when mine went out, will se what dealer says when I bring it in next Wednesday. I mentioned this Forum in my written description of problem to dealer and stated the fix seems to be replacing steering unit.

As I said in an earlier post I thought mine was a heat issue too, the manufacturer claims it to be a short, they said they would contact us when they receive the unit back, and will advise. But it would not be hard to believe that there is more than one issue with all the cars out there

I asked my service tech if there was an issue with cooling the steering rack he said no mine popped the code saying electrical but funny if it is a electrical connection then why after sitting and cooling the steering works fine. So the dealer replaced the unit and realigned and set the front to specs. I will say the car seems to track better going down the road after replacing the rack and getting everything realigned. The etch said the unit had all the cooling it needed based on the design GM is using.

Maybe that 6k, 12 state inaugural trip out west I took this past summer right after I bought the Z was not such a bad idea.

Loss of Steering Assist
Just had a call from OnStar to inform me I had two warnings pop up. One was an oil change, which I had done last Monday, the second was a "RECALL" for Loss of Steering Assist.
Just had the car into dealer on Monday for the oil change, how come they didn't see this recall!?!?
After call from OnStar I logged into My Chevrolet Owner center and checked "recalls"... nothing shows there about any recall for this.
OnStar stated would have a recall specialist from the dealership contact me this coming Monday.
Just finished a 250+ mile curvy mountain road cruise.. damn good thing it didn't quit!

In truth, I'd trust my ex wife before OnStar, and that's not saying much ........

Guess I'm with you on this one.. just had a call from dealership. Not sure why OnStar called me about my Vette as there is no recall for loss of steering assist on the Vette's, it's on the Silverado.. and I don't own a Silverado.
Dealer apologized for the "confusion", wasn't sure how OS got this all wrong..

What I enjoy are the notifications for the C6 that I traded for my first C7 way back when. Someone has had the OnStar activated which is fine. Except every now and then I end up getting a monthly email.

There are two problems being discussed in the thread. First one looks like an issue with some bad racks that got into 2017 cars while the other is the on track power steering motor cooling issue that affects all C7s from 2014 on. GM released a fix through a TSB. The TSB fix is easy to install and only needed on track. In fact the TSB recommends removing the cooling duct when the car is being used on the street. If you do the work yourself you have less than $50 in parts. The only skills required are to be able to use a sharp knife without injuring yourself and the ability to use a pop rivet tool.
