I never use the ECO mode on the M7.
I don't have to worry but on my
A8. Can I use the plug-in I use on my Sierra to keep it in the V8 mode?

Yes, I used Range on my 17 GS A8.

Depending upon the year of your Z06 and the revision model of your Range module it may cause a CEL if you have it plugged in at start up. Range will upgrade your Range module to the latest revision which is supposed to be CEL free.

I have Range version 8.2 in my 2016 Z06 and use a switched OBD II extension cable and turn it on after startup. Regardless of Range revision it does draw some current if plugged into the OBD II port when the car is shut off so you don't want to leave it plugged in when the Corvette won't be used for several days. The OBD II port connector wasn't intended for frequent use so rather than plugging/unplugging use an extension cable to save connector wear.

If you forget and start the car with the Range module in place (and switched on) and get a CEL you will find the transmission is locked into 4th gear in forward and cannot be changed with the paddle shift. This is a safety limp mode because the error created by the Range is a communications error between the engine and transmission controllers that prevents the transmission from calling for reduced power during shifts and other operational points where the transmission needs to change engine power delivery. When this happens remove the Range module and restart the car and the error will be cleared and the car will drive normally but the CEL will remain on for a few ignition cycles. If you plug the Range module in while the car is running it will clear the CEL but don't do this if you also had other problems not related to the Range because it will also clear any other DTCs that have been set.

This small inconvenience (of switching the Range on and off) is much better than dealing with A8 issues caused by V4 mode. I was going back and forth between getting a new GMC Sierra light duty crew cab pickup with a 6.2 gas or another HD with the new Duramax diesel. I had pretty much decided that I could make do with a lighter duty pickup after owning two Duramax diesel equipped Sierra pickups but after having to use a Range module with my Z06 to avoid AFM/transmission issues I decided I would rather deal with the quirks of the diesel emission control system rather than another GM AFM engine/transmission.

Run the car in Sport Mode and use the Paddle Shifters to stay out of V4 Mode...or get the Range.

I just had the green belt installed today, no more noise from the V8 to V4 transition.

Just happened to have a Range since the GMC is mostly highway doing 75 or
intown so the i'm not bothering using it. But I will on the A8.

It's your call! but "I" hate having extra crap in my car, see post 3.

The DiabloSport intune has the AFM/DOD V8/V4 mode removal option which allows you to turn the V4/V8 "off" in the "stock" or their modified tunes. That way you just turn the AFM "off" and forget about it. You also have nothing hook up junking up the interior all the time and running down your battery if you forget.

If you go to the dealer for service just remove the tune/V8-V4 mode before you go. As far as the dealer or "GM" seeing the tune from what I have read, etc. the answer is "NO". I have done a lot of searching and I have not found one example yet where anyone who removed the DS tune before going to the dealer for "any kind" of service had a problem.

Interesting. I have my M7 set in Eco Mode all the time. I have the exhaust set in Track Mode. Works great that way. I can tell when it switches from V8 to V4 because the exhaust gets super quiet and when it switches back to V8 it gets loud. No rough running, very smooth operation, doesn't impact performance and it does help save gas.
