GM cold air intake for ZO6

Yah....I sub’ed to this topic hoping it would ultimately yield info regarding a mod I might do on a car I intend to keep. Instead it appears to be tittering on becoming another rehash on overheating, which we are all aware of after reading multiple threads dedicated to that topic.
If the rehashing folks could kindly let us focus on the subject of this post, that would be swell. My unsolicited advice to them is to do what makes you happy and allow others to do so as well. If the car has disappointed to the point of stomping on others trying to enjoy theirs, be a good human, sell your car and move on....

Just got this reply after placing an online order earlier this morning.
"Unfortunately the cleaner kit you've purchased (84152141) is considered a new part, by GM, and is not available as of yet for us to order. Because they don't even list a promise date for release, I thought it best to cancel your order & issue you a full refund"
Was worth a shot since they had a sale and was $499 delivered.

I was going to do the same but read somewhere (someone asked a dealer who contacted GM IIRC) that it will not be available until late April 2018.

Agreed, the C7Z06 represents a horrible lack of research, development and engineering on GM’s (Tadge’s) part. Most track capable car yet?
1) TB too small for the application. (Used the same TB as a 400hp truck engine.)
2) Supercharger too small for the application. (European crash standard, really? Then suddenly realize they have never sold enough Vettes in Europe to have to meet this standard)
3) Inadequate cooling for the application.
4) ** Air filter system too restrictive for the application.
5) ** Shock calibration not properly researched and developed.
6) ** Engine calibration too conservative.
** These items can now be improved, not as a matter of warranty, but for an additional charge.
The 2019 ZR1 is what the Z06 should have been. The ZR1 should be a step above.

That was me. And essentially the above is correct. Parts guy did call GM and was given an availability date. I think the specific date mentioned was 9 April, but it was definitely April of this year.

I ordered one yesterday from Tasca for 500, and got the same email this morning.

It ain't April yet
At Sebring there is always a big Chevrolet display. Have to hit them up for any information. But that's still mid-March.

i would be curious if someone can get buddy buddy with a dealer enough to order the part, have the tune put into their computer, and then return the part, and leave the tune alone. This is currently my goal.

I like where your head's at. I'd love a free tune and slap on a Halltech carbon fiber intake because it looks so much better lol

There is no reason to suspect Halltech (or any other aftermarket CAI) will be superior to this product. The fact that GM is selling this with a tune suggests they have considered how the airflow at the MAF differs between this product and stock and how to effectively incorporate this into the AF tables. As many of the aftermarket intakes have differing MAF diameters, it stands to reason they would all need a custom tune to optimize for flow across the MAF. The filter element of the Halltech may flow more but there is no data that this actually matters for modest bolt on cars. I realize some companies tout massive gains in HP and Tq for their intakes but GM I think presents a more realistic idea of what gains are likely for their or any other aftermarket intake.
Just my 2 cents...

your items 1,2,and 4 are spot on. Don’t care about item 3 as I won’t track the car. I do like my c7z but will need to go to aftermarket for those items to get the performance I thought I would get out of the box. Performance-wise I am very disappointed when I stand on it in 2nd 3rd and 4th gear.
in sotp and like it a lot. I just bought another for my A8.
No doubt the single most best mod you can do next to a new blower and then you still need the intake for any future mods.
Stock intake and filter blows!
Highly recommend you call Ben at Weapon X I just ordered 1 this morning.

That's why the stock record is faster than the stocker 'with any aftermarket CAI'
You know if the factory size throttle body will only let X-amount of air past/through with said supercharger than adding double or triple X in front of the TB does nothing. Now if you change the stock tune you most 'likely' lost your warranty and it's not a stocker any more either.

Give it and get it. I’m ok with knowing an auto is faster on average from a dig. Hearing it consistently from a certain few; thinking they are soo much superior is well...worth my effort
