I've driven both and owned a C6Z making similar ZR1 power. I can tell you for a fact that a C6 ZR1, properly piloted by a great driver, IS faster than most C7 Z06 variations on the highway, mostly noticeable above 140 MPH. I do not care who says otherwise, I've seen it first hand and I've driven them both. A C6 ZR1 is just geared a little better and has a better aero path, weighs a few hundred less and has less drag.

The C7 Z06 is a better car, per say. It's newer, better interior, and it has some more tech packed in.

The ONLY reason to buy a C6 ZR1 in my opinion is if you're going to make them into a race car. The LS9 can make a lot more power, Kong is getting consistently over 900 RWHP on blower only. An LT4 will never touch those numbers just because of the blower size. The LS9s are also extremely bullet proof, bolt ons and stock bottom end with nitrous or Heads/Cam and they put out north of 800 RWHP and run the streets of Texas for years. I do not see a C7 Z06 doing as good of a job with that. Smaller blower, more drag, and a bit heavier. Now, there's no question, the A8 for DIG racing is an incredible advantage so, keep that in mind.

YMMV, but like I said, I would recommend a C7 Z06 in every way, unless you're looking for a highway/street warrior against 1000 RWHP Hellcats and Supras. The ZR1 is still the best weapon for that. (The new ZR1 with the LT5 with the 2650 blower is going to be RIDICULOUS as well, if you can swing one of those then go for it).

^^^ Same exact gearing 1-6 b/n the M6 ZR and M7 Z06.

OP - I still have an enjoy both. I think I gave you feedback in your other thread. No plans to get rid of my ZR (in fact my teenage son has claimed it - over the C7 Z, interestingly), and I like 'em both - different drives/experiences. See if you can drive 'em back to back.

C6 ZR1 has two sets of gearing for the later years so one of them is different. Pretty sure the M7 ratios are different than the shorter gear option on the ZR1 (was standard on 09-10 and then optioned in performance package after that if I remember correctly).

Anyways, both are awesome cars. You can see I went with the C7 Z07 so. The only thing Z06 for me is lacking is weight is a bit high and the blower is very limiting. The LSA and LS9 both had more room to play with bolt ons and not worry about cooling as much, though it’s always there of course. I wish GM had just put a 2.3 liter on the LT4 and spun it slower and left us with more room.

Ah, I forgot about the different gear set in later years. Mine is a '10. The M7 Z06 has the same gear ratios 1-6 as the early ZRs and the later ZRs with the optional performance gear set.

And I'm with you, I wish GM would've gone with a bigger huffer on the C7 Z. I sent mine to Callaway and fixed it that way. The blower on the new ZR ought to be a dandy - assuming they didn't set the new ecm up in a way to be a complete PIA to tune.

Hopefully the 2650 will be an easy swap from the LT5 to the LT4. Blower swaps have been normalized thanks to this 1740 hamster blower as I’ve seen it put.

Who cares about the plastic trim and nav screen? It’s a ZR1. Put it in gear and let er rip. You’ll smile.

as a c7z06 owner — the dash is Mickey Mouse and the C7z is a 60 foot queen with the auto. The c6zr1 hands down is a much better car.

The audio system alone is a good reason to buy a C7.

I've had like 5 Vettes and also had an LMB cammed nitrous C6 Z06, loved it!!! But the C7 is just the car to have. I too saved up and got one, a used one at that but only had like 6k miles. Go for it, look on Cargurus and on this site, lots of good deals out there. Like the others said, do your homework first and DO NOT rush into it.....

Good luck...

I owned a 2009 ZR1, I sold it to get the C7Z.
I would have loved to have been able to keep it that car was very fast.
It is a tough choice but the technology of the C7 is hard to beat.

3 of my favorite things about the C7Z;

Rev match
Advancement of the magnetic shocks (drive mode changes are very good)
PDR

3 of my favorite things about the ZR;

Blower whine
Tach and Speedometer (love the large analog gauges)
6 speed manual

Good Luck!

Ive got a 2011 C6 ZR1, bought it used last spring with about 15,000 miles on it, took it too 10 track events at a small 1.6 mile course. Burnt off 1.5 sets of tires and 1 set of pads, it ran perfect, fast and I just love the car! (Seats suck for racing) As others have stated the nav is outdated but the gauges to me are just fine!
I also have a 2017 Z06 M7 that I only took to the track once at the last event of the year and ran the same time as I did in my ZR1, I know my Z06 is the faster car on the track but on the hiway in the right temps that ZR1 is a beast! Or so it feels like it! The 3zl interior, comp seats, sub woofer, rev match, getting to open your exhaust right up in the Z06 are hands down superior! Where I live I bet 90% of the people that see the ZR1 have no idea what its really all about.

Like children, many will simply say what they own is the best and you should get what they got....Id simply ignore posts like that

Without a doubt and as some dual members have mentioned, the ZR is the more beastly car with more straight speed esp the faster you are going. I also think the ZR is a more mod friendlier car and is a stronger car while the C7Z seems to be just a little more sensitive. No sense in talking about looks as that's totally up to the individual. The ZR was also a little bit roomier if that means anything to you. That's prob where it ends for the ZR being compared to the C7Z. Theres no comp between the 2 as many have mentioned as far as tech goes. The int on the Z absolutely blows the ZR's out of the box and if you go manual, the rev match is flawless. Of course the Z offers the A8 which is not an option for the Z. Braking on the Z feels way better on the Z as well as the steering. The ride quality was about equal for my likings. Good luck, both really awesome cars.

This is spot on.

I had the decision to make a few months back; test drove ZR1's and C7Z's....ended up with the C7Z as I wanted a car to actually enjoy driving. The C7Z is a better all around car; no question! If you're looking for straight up 1/2 or 1 mile drag racing performance, the ZR1 is the better option. C7Z is better around a race track in M7 form.

I couldn't pass up the C7Z after driving it due to the transmission (rev match is INSANE!), tech (PDR, better radio, climate control, etc), and the removable top.

Looks are totally subjective - I love both. Nothing against the C6ZR1 at all; it's a great car, but for the same relative price as a C7Z, I spoke with my wallet.

Those were my two choices too and I also chose a 2015 Z06, the tech and interior did it for me.
