C7 Z06 or C6 ZR1 ?

Advanced
If you intend on driving it hard at the track (road course), IMO you want the "youngest" M6 C7 you can find. And if you're NOT taking it to the track: still, a new C7. Inside & out, much improved.
One specific detail on the M6 in C6ZR1 vs. C7Z06: I much prefer the pedal placement in the C7 for easy heel/toe throttle work. I'm sure this varies, depending on the driver and the footwear; I wear a size 13 driving shoe and (for me) the brake - throttle gap in the ZR1 was too broad. The C7 (I drove 'em back-to-back at Spring Mountain) pedals were much easier to work, very similar to my Gen IV ACR.

Do you like 638hp chevy malibus?

So I saved my $ and am finally ready to buy, what do you gentlemen think?
C6 ZR1 or C7 Z06
I like the rarity. uniqueness and the look of the ZR1 but the tech on the C7 is hard to ignore, so...
What do you recommend for what reason? and those of you who have owned/driven both please share your thoughts <<<
thanks!

Looks - no need for me to comment as that is a personal preference.
If interior tech is a bigger day to day issue than getting rarity, then you should either get a Z06, or look to do some interior upgrades to the ZR1 with some aftermarket gadgets.
How do you plan to drive the car? Weekend cruises, tracking, everyday driver......?

I agree, without question get the C7, incredible car. Do your self a favor if your able to get the M7. Much better driving experience. I have a friend here in Houston with a zR1 c6 & the auto c7. I obviously have the c7 manual; but if your close to Houston I'm sure I can get the boys out so you can decide. Or try them out where you live; grats on the new purchase soon.

You already listed your main points, and the rarity point leans towards a ZR1. I mentioned in an earlier post this year how I saw 5 or so Z06s just driving to a business dinner in one night. I have only seen 4 or 5 ZR1s on the road in the 8 years I have owned mine. And I live in Houston, the fourth largest city in the country.

There is ZR1s at every night meet I go to.....here locally in Houston.. Hell we have two ZR1s in our small group that we cruise with all the time. Last meet I went to, there was 4 ZR1s there out of only about 30 cars...
They are not nearly as "rare" as they are made out to be.....5000+ cars built is hardly "rare"...LOL
I do love me some ZR1 though... I have a lot of fun running with the ones in our group, both are bolt on cars making 600 ish.

As for the ageless debate over C7Z vs ZR1....
You really need to DRIVE both....and choose for yourself. If you post this question in the C6 ZR1 section you will CERTAINLY get all ZR1 recommendations from those guys....They are hardcore and bleed ZR1 rarity and exclusivity....almost as if you are driving a 71' Daytona Spider...
Asking the question in the C7Z forum will most likely get you C7Z recommendations based on the "latest greatest technology, far superior handling and interior"...most of which you'll never use or even figure out...
Drive them, see which one YOU like best. You can not go wrong with either one.... Both have their pros and cons. Your type of usage may determine the better car for you.
Just don't get led to believe about "investment", "rarity", "collector" type scenarios. All of these cars (C6ZR1s and C7Zs) are terrible investments, they are literally worth half of what they cost new in only 4 years....and the market is literally TANKING on all of them.
So buy the one that touches your soul....both in how it drives and how it looks... Some things that are better about one model may not benefit you, and vice versa....so buy what fits YOU best.
The only opinions I would give ANY merit to, are those that have owned BOTH cars.....for a truly unbiased opinion.
Everyone else, well they have to justify what they have so...ofcourse their **** is gonna be the best.

I drove the Zr1 and the 2015 Z06 back to back, Drive one a week then the other. I sold the ZR1 and now have a M7 and A8 C7 Z06
The M7 just needed work with intake as Corvette gives you the same intake and filter as the Stingray gets. They goofed on that.
I added a Halltech to my M7 and she made 599rwhp and 604 rwhp and was stronger than the ZR1 proven by runs from the drag strip.
The ZR1 never hit over 128 where the C7 Z06 with Halltech did 130's and now 132+ with headers.

And as a side note to the original poster, don’t expect either of these vehicles to skyrocket in price and become some expensive collector item.
Get what you want.

Semantics.....
4400 or 5000... either way it is not RARE..lol not even close. One of my cars is 1 of 657. That’s rare. I also have a 1 year only, 1 of 2937 built car....and even it isn’t considered RARE...
Are there many more C7Zs vs ZR1s? Ofcourse...there was 20k+ C7Zs produced... and once again, who the hell cares. They are great cars and they’ve sold tons of them for a reason.
If you are truly looking for something rare, something collectible and actually appreciating in value, there are tons of other choices that are much better then a C6 ZR1...
C4 ZR1 folks also thought they had something rare and collectible, and look at them now.....C6ZR1s are following suit.... as will C7Zs.
Lastly, as far as exclusivity out on the road and not seeing them on America’s highways? Well once again, who cares...98% of the general public could not tell the difference between a ZR1 and a 2005 base model coupe as it cruises down the highway at 75 mph.
ZR1s are great performance cars, and really a great bang for the buck for what you can get them for these days (mid $50s)..many of them are virgin, unmodded, unabused cars that an older fella probably bought for $125k and figured out it was too much car for them.
Buy them for what they are, a true performance car and use them as such. Trying to use them for some kind of entrance into the elite cool crew of rare/exclusive corvettes is just dumb.

Tell us how you really feel. No one here ever said the C6ZR1 was a rare car. We corrected you on your 5000PLUS statement. That is all. As for my one of five Centennials fitted with satin silver Cup wheels instead of the black is RARE. Not!
To the OP, you really need to drive both and decide. I drove the new C7Z06 and think its a fine car but not fine enough for me to add to the stable. I have a newer Corvette and don't need another nor will I EVER let the C6ZR1 go. I am interested in the new ZR1 though. That might keep me from adding a Ferrari though I doubt it at this time.

I don't own a ZR1 or a C7 Z and have a C6 Z. I have driven a ZR1 and would like to own one. Personally, I like the looks of the C6 ZR1. The are definitely rare compared to the C6 Z and the C7 Z and for that reason they stand a better chance of being collectable down the road. But who knows if and when that will occur. Values are continuing to drop on all the cars. It is a good value now considering they were $120K+ when new. But the used ones are close in price to a used C7 Z making this a tougher decision. Drive them both - that is the only way to do a thorough comparison and make an educated decision. Let us know what you decide.

The C7 manual transmission is an M7.
I wear size 13 Piloti driving shoes, and I find the pedals in my old C6 Z06 and my current C6 ZR1 and C7 Z06 are essentially identical. I can heel-and-toe the C6 or the C7 just as effectively.
HOWEVER - You don't heel-and-toe an M7 C7!!!!!
In the C7 I activate the ARM (Active Rev Matching) every time I start the car - whether on the track or street!!
