Default Borla or Corsa X Pipe? Is it needed?

Pick up my Z06 on Saturday.... I have a 17 GS with the borla x pipe and love the gurgles and pops.

Does the Z06 have the gurgles and pops stock? Or is the borla or Corsa X Pipe needed? If so, which one?

Thanks,

Joe

An X-pipe sounds even better on the Z06! The Borla matches up better with the stock piping than the Corsa and seems to be the fan favorite. If you add an axle-back system, then the Corsa is my personal favorite.

Definitely makes a difference. I have a Corsa that sounds so sweet. I wanted more and added a Magnaflow Competition system. Sounds like a race car now.

Added a Borla to my Z51 and it made it growl a bit more. I loved it. Believe it or not I pulled and sold it before I’d be REALLY tempted to put on the Z. Trying damn hard to stay stock. I’m sure it would sound awesome.

I put the Corsa on & removed the secondary cats.

It makes it 'marginally' louder.

Nowhere near as loud as my C7 Z51 with head/cam/LT though.

Not even close.

IMHO, it's not worth the time/expense.

Borla or Corsa with the secondary cat deletes makes a big difference on the Z06.

I've run both on my 16Z. The Corsa sounds meaner. The Borla a tenth quicker in the quarter than the Corsa.

I was going to make a post on x-pipes, but I'll throw it in here. does anyone make an x-pipe that sounds mean like the corsa but adds power like the borla? Seems like the only two that get thrown around is these 2 but I'm guessing others make them, no?

Borla is the way to go for weight loss and power gains. According to an email exchange I had with David Borla they also tested a 3.0" design (which is what the Corsa and eBay versions are) but experienced a loss in torque, presumably because it hurts exhaust gas flow velocity. Billy Boat also makes a 3.0" X-pipe, but its silly-priced compared to all the others.

Does the borla sound good with the stock exhaust or does it make it sound worse?

Good info here, I just got 15' Z06 and I was staring to look at various X pipes. I'd like to do the AFE front deletes also with the Borla X pipe eventually.

Thank you ALL !

I think it sounds great, I haven't heard anyone else complain either! It's similar to stock but with a little something extra (volume + growl) since its similar in design but with the secondary cats removed.

Stock/Borla/Corsa:

Write-up I put together a few years ago: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-vs-corsa.html

I sell and install both. THe corsa sounds better way the double helix design is. My main cat delete kit/corsa x pipe is what i have on my car and sounds really good. Also a customer gained 19/22 at rear wheels doing my main cat delete pipe/corsa x.

yah we cut them before also but entry point is kinked on the oem cat pipes.

Here is the entry coming into the main cats you can see its closed up pretty well for flow

cats on the x pipe flow a lot better than the main cats. You can see the gap between the cells are much bigger

and here is my entry for the main cat delete. Full 3 inch and much more air flow

Is there a reason not to just go with a shorty header. I would do the cat deletes, but it just isn't enough savings justified over long tubes . Maybe AFE should and will lower their prices, until then why not do the shorties $650 which are cheaper or the TSP Headers and X-Pipe for 1K or Kooks for $1300. Cat Deletes & Corsa X $750+550= $1300 Yes, I understand install is a little easier.

Main restruction is not the manifolds but cat sections. Headers are closer to the oil/cooler lines and heat the heck out of engine bay.
