They're summer tires stupid
Had the Z out for about an hour today and was ready to head home. The temperature was 45 degrees, sunny and bright. I saw a car coming and thought no problem with all this torque it would be a safe maneuver pulling out. Let me tell you the car tried to dance right out from under me and all the nannies were on. It sure got my attention. I have had this car going on three years which proves you always have to be thinking when you take your car out in sub 70 degree weather.

Drove mine on a 210 mile round trip yesterday to Tree House Brewery in Charlton, Mass. Great pale ales Temp was 46. As expected, 1st and 2nd gear pulls were not working well. Did manage some nice 3rd and 4th gear pulls with no issues. Not many days left to drive this beast around here. Arrived home safely with 2 cases of double IPA's.

If they are dedicated snow tires, there should be no problem as long as you drive normal. A lot of MBs, BMWs, Lexus’ are RWD and I see the drivers in the snow.

Safety Car
Yep. Drive my car year round here down South in Austin 10-30% throttle is plenty when it’s cool outside.

I have a choice of 3 trucks. If you need to drive the Z06 in an ice storm with snow tires it looks like your what lordofwar said or it's your only car.
They will be a few putting them on the new ZR1 not kidding!

Had rotors and wheels cleaned at dealer to get rid of popping noise this past Tuesday. Left dealer stepped on it up freeway ramp suddenly I'm all over the road no accident but woke me up that cool weather is here in the south.

Yesterday I took my ATS out to run some errands since it was 40 degrees with rain threatening. Even though it has slightly less than half the horsepower of my Z06 and its Bridgestone summer performance tires aren't as aggressive as the Michelin tires I still broke the back end loose in a fairly sedate takeoff from a 4 way stop.
I took that as a sign that it is time to put the all season tires/wheels on the ATS, prepare to park the Z for a few months, and get ready to spend some more time driving my GMC full size 4WD diesel pickup. Unfortunately cold weather is here for a few months.

I got caught in light snow heading home from LA. Posted a spoof thread over in the general discussion error and got flamed a few times, though most noted I was pulling their chains. The weather in Northern Nevada and the High Sierra of California is truly bi-polar. Even with storm warnings, you can get caught out over a mountain pass with a 3 degree temperature variation.
My biggest issue in the snow was feeling as if I was steering a toboggan when I drifted out of previous vehicles tire tracks. Took a chill pill and simply slowed way down. Arrived alive, car unscathed and slept in my own bed after a month.
My regular winter vehicles are a Yukon and Sierra 2500 diesel...a tad better options

anything under 50 degrees I use weather mode. it helps a lot. have been driving my Z a bunch past couple weeks with temps in the 38 to 50 range.

^^^ Good idea. Will try it when the weather turns. It only took one incident like the OP, with an impressionable lady friend along, for me to not try square corners when the coldness is under 50F. Thankfully, there were enough nannies still active in sport mode to save us.

Weather mode can and does help a lot but the basic physics of cold summer tire compound still comes into play. If you have to do an emergency stop or rapid change of direction weather mode isn't going to save you but it does an excellent job of preventing accelerator related incidents.
