Default Battery shot already?

I have a 2016 Z that I purchased 11/01/16. It has about 5500 miles on it and is normally drive every week or two for about 50 miles just to ensure it is driven. Went to the garage today and it only clicked! Checked battery voltage and it was 10.2 volts. I have two other older toys, which are driven less than the Z, and both of there batteries were at 12.5 or >. The Z was driven last 3 weeks ago. I guess I should invest in a tender! I’ve never seen a voltage this low without some drain on the battery or it has bit the dust. I am in the garage everyday working on a C-1 project so never noticed any lights etc left on. Currently charging it to see what happens. If it goes down over night then back to the dealer for a new battery or to find the source of the electron leakage. Anyone else had a premature battery failure?

These things supposedly suck quite a bit of juice just sitting with all the electronic do-dads. Parasitic like electronics in our houses even when turned off, but more so. Yes a tender for sure especially with cooler wx. coming.

If you are only driving it 50 miles or so every 3 weeks you need to put it on a battery tender. I drive my 16 a lot but keep it on the tender if I'm not going to drive it for a few days. Mine came with the CTEK 3300.
My old Vettes don't need tenders. The newer Vettes have computers that maintain systems while it's sitting and will run your battery down pretty quickly.

No way should a battery be gone in less than 2 years. I think you have a defective battery or a problem with the charging system. Use your warranty.

My C6 Z06 went thru a battery every 2-3 years and that was with a battery tender. It was just an issue I lived with. Only had my C7 Z06 about 7 months so I can't comment there.

As stated in a previous thread I would put the car on a battery tender when not in us.

Hope I have better luck with the new Z.

Yep, it has been on my Optima charger for about 18 hrs and still shows a good charging rate - It has sat for an extended period before and never an issue. 10.2 volts initially tells me its shot!

Get a battery maintainer like the batteryminder that has a built in desulfator mode. I believe they are the best on the market and can actually bring back to life batteries you may think are shot.

Amazon Amazon

Charged for 18 hours, took it off this morning at about 9:00 am. It was at 13.4 volts and charging at about 3 amps. Checked it when I came home at 5:00pm and battery voltage was down to 11.0 volts. The car did start (hesitantly) and I checked the battery voltage when supplied by Alternator, it was 14.8 so alternator doing its thing. I either have a BIG drain or a battery failure. Will let the dealer figure it out tomorrow, still under warranty.

Sounds like a cell went bad early. It happens. Use the warranty instead of twisting and turning about how “it shouldn’t happen”. Move on, no big deal.

I believe there is quite a difference in "battery chargers" VS "maintainers" such as the OE option. Battery chargers, again I think they do, continue to charge even when the battery is fully charged which can lead to sulfation which limits the battery from accepting a new charge when driven/charged. As was mentioned there are maintainers that desulfate batteries improving recovery capabilities.
