One would imagine that Supercar would have an objective performance definition you could all agree on and then measure against that.

Doesn't matter what it weighs, what color it is, whether its gas or electric or rear wheel or all wheel drive, there should just be a set of metrics.

Accelerate to 60 sub 3 seconds, stop from 60 sub 100 feet, run quarter sub 11, lap Willows in under 1:35. Perhaps Top Speed matters to you.

What doesn't matter is mileage, price, color, styling, all of that. And much of that is subjective anyway.

What I -can- tell you is that if the Z06 is a supercar, it doesn't make the ZR1 a hypercar by adding a measly 100hp. You need another set of metrics that only a few cars in the world can achieve. Like a sub-7 Nurburgring and > 225 mph top speed, something like that.

These manufacturers do use the supercar term but only when referring to their higher end/top performing models. A supercar is more than just performance, it also has exclusivity and exotic qualities. Again, if the 570S isn't a supercar according to McLaren or the 911T, how in the world is a z06? It is a great performing sports car at a great price but far from a supercar.

When i first bought my Z, every single person who complimented the car said, "dude it looks like a ferrari, or SOME SUPERCAR".

I am almost certain every Z owner has gotten a compliment like that so it stuck in their head brainwashing them in thinking they really own a supercar lol

This is almost as sad as a person who can't afford a real ferrari but wants to be part of the ferrari family. So he would buy the proper attire and when people ask, "do you really own a ferrari?".

If your selling cars in the 1/2 million and up range. Of course your going to play off your 160k cars as not supercars your trying to reserve that for your other over priced vehicles.
The Z06 and ZR1 are GM's supercars! They can use any term they like.

Just the opposite. Very secure. If I owed a 'supposed" Supercar or 2 juggling lease payments seems a lot more like insecure to me. Along with 20 posts on a Z06
forum why the Z06 is not a supercar when it and Corvette's of the past carry supercar and better performance. I suppose the ZR1 in 2009 wasn't a Supercar or the Z06 from 2006 and 2001? All whipped up on plenty of supposed other "Supercars.

So bragging on a public forum of what you "own" or maybe in fantasy land what you "own" is really impressive.

Now if you took pics of a REAL SUPERCAR in your stable, then yeah i'll be a little impressed. Maybe a ferrari, mclaren. You know.....legit supercars.

So doesn't matter if you own a stock 650hp z06 or a heavily modded 1500hp z06 that was featured in all the youtube videos and magazines, still doesn't make it a supercar LOL

I have wanted a corvette since i was 13 years old. I finally got my ZO6 as a 50th birthday present to myself. I agree, its a super car to me no matter what anyone else thinks.

IMO the Z06 is not a supercar on price alone. I think supercars begin in the $175-$200k range. That said, I have been able to drive several High dollar Porsche and Ferrari’s.

The visceral experience of the Z06 at the price point makes the Z right there with them based on the experience. Day to Day the Z drives better and is more fun. Cost of ownership over the Porsche is about 1/2 and basic maintence of the Ferrari begins at about $5 a mile excluding tires.

From a value standpoint the Z06 gets you 95% of the performance, 85-90% of the fit and finish, at 50%-500% less cost. I will take the Z06 any day.

The most important aspect of a supercar is a super high price. It makes it unattainable to nearly everyone and builds an alluring fantasy-like image. Always has and always will be true.
