Is the Z06 a legit Supercar?

Enjoy your car.
If someone needs a title like "supercar" to make them feel better about their choice, you'll likely never be satisfied because the goal-posts move every model year. That's the marketing game.
I posted in this thread to possibly read objective comparisons about fine automotive specimens (that I admit I will never afford) and how our amazing piece of GM kit really stacks up. It seems to have devolved into silliness. Unsubscribing because this has become nonsense in many ways.

A 200MPH American made supercar for under $150K (todays dollars) is a monster statement in the automotive performance world. This is why the Nurburgring numbers are so important. It would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the vette can run with the big dogs costing far more.
With mods to your C7 Z06.
Many many of them on the forum. These cars will do 200 mph and more
and run 9's and 10's doing 130-150 mph depends how much you want to spend.
That is a SUPER Z! When you do that on pump gas I call that a "Supercar".
Much like say a Hennessy car which is build put together and tuned but anyone can do it. The tune being the most important part!

Even if we stretch all the options to over 100k, guess what? Still not a supercar lol
Btw, exotic owners tend to be nice people, when you're at car meets. Did you tell them if they liked your chevy supercar? I bet you didn't mention that to them, cause they'd laugh at you

A compliment doesn't mean they think your Corvette is in their class i.e. supercar
Nobody here is claiming our cars are Astecs or Yugo's. It's just that they aren't supercars by today's definition. Just because that 15 years ago any car that could break 200 mph was a "supercar" doesn't mean it is today. The Dodge Charger can break 200 mph. That argument is long gone.

I disagree. The benchmark was 200 MPH and just because other cars can now hit that mark doesn't invalidate it. Some "definitions", such as:
" A supercar is a luxury, high-performance sports car or grand tourer. The term is used in marketing by automakers for unusual and expensive vehicles, and has been used to refer to different sorts of cars: Limited-production specials from an "elite" automaker.
is as bogus as they come. There is no performance benchmark there, they are talking about EXPENSIVE, and ELITE. What defines "expensive" and "elite"?
They have attempted to turn a performance benchmark into a marketing ploy and as usual, people fall for it.
A sucker is born every minute..

Mcider you're living in the past. The Commodore 64 computer was the supercar of its time. So in your thinking, every computer out there now is cutting edge. The term supercar is the same kind of moving target.
The only way the corvette gets put into a supercar catagory is with an asterisk. Any top 10 list that has no limits never has a Chevrolet Corvette in it. It takes a list of under $150,000 cars for it to show up.
Some people are unable to change with the times.

That's the way I feel! The way my super Z06's are set up. Next to 800 hp with the M7,along with race car feel and sound w/ headers more blower noise
makes the car a real hoot to drive. MPG seems about the same as well.
The other with 690 hp with the A8 is no slouch. It drives quiet more luxury very fast as well.
Real super DD both of these.
Others can buy any car or cars they like no matter to me.

Sorry but not buying it. The racing history of the Corvette the last 20 years proves without a doubt it has the breeding and the trophies to be in the supercar category. I am missing the podium finishes of the Bugatti's Koenigseggs, Brabham's and the other million dollar plus cars. What constitutes your supercar? Straight line speed? Cost? Exclusivity?
If the ZR1 can break into the 7's at Nurburgring, an incredibly exclusive club, is it then a supercar?
Some people are unable to change with the times....yep....I don't follow trends...never have.

That's OK mcrider.... You're welcome to call your assembly line Chevrolet a supercar. Come on down West Palm to a supercar show and see if it's allowed in. When I bought my Z06/Z07 back 2 1/2 years ago, I thought it was reasonably rare enough to get in. Ha...... I was told I could "display" (park) it in the adjacent parking lot and enter as a spectator. Maybe up in the Iowa area it's considered a supercar but it sure isn't down here. My Jeep gets more attention than the Corvette.

I could care less about a car show is West Palm Beach much less what the cork sniffers attending think. In Iowa, not about SHOW...it's about GO...
