Default Thinking About Buying Another Z06 to be a Track Rat

It has been a while since I have been on the boards and researched this topic but I have been tasked to help a good friend on picking up and helping prep a M7 15's & 16's floating around. On my personal ’15 Z06 I had a flex-fuel kit but sold the car before getting to track the car and ensure that E85 fixed the overheating. His plan is to run the car in TT events and for HPDE’s on R7's, this would require it be strong for a 20-25 minute session even in the dead of summer or at altitude. He was able to easily overheat his A8 in a 3-4 laps which lead to the car being sold.

Long story short I have a few ideas but wanted to see if there was any feedback.

First was to fit a larger blower pulley to reduce boost a few pounds.

If that does not work a DeWitt's Radiator Set plus a surge tank for the supercharger.

Last would be to go back to flex-fuel, I would prefer not to carry a barrel of fuel to every event if I did not have to, but I am sure this would fix the problem. On the C6's E85 would allow a modified car to run for long sessions without getting hot, both the oil and coolant were good.

As for other modifications anything for LG is off the table at this point. I do have great respect for Katech but the TIKT Twin Heat exchanger kit is just too much. By the time it was installed you would have $15K invested. For that same money you could be in a GT car.

Thank you for your advice.

My concern with the ethanol would be the rate of fuel consumption. This car absolutely CHUGS fuel at the track as it is. You will be filling up every session!

You might think about the Gspeed solution. They have more data backing their program than anyone else that i have read.

Honestly, get an M7 and put in the secondary radiator then see how it does. There are lots of folks tracking the car in this configuration without issue even in hot SE Summers.

I HAve a 16z m7 all stock and I'm 90 temps I short shifted at
5k to prevent over heating, oil never went above 260 coolant ataed around 220. Last session (hottest) I tried to overheat it more or less redlining it, oil wet to 268 and nothing more. The M7 isn't as easy as everyone thinks. I wouldn't waste your even time with the A8 period.

2017+ is a much better start. You'll have much better cooling to start with the upgraded engine, and it might just work.

Good advice based upon actual experience and data. I, like Sean, track these M7 cars hard and have good results even in the heat.

For a serious track car I’d really have to look hard at a M7 GS.

I agree 100% the Grand Sport is my choice too. I hate to admit here it but the 1LE SS was my recomendation. That car with a square setup is very hard to beat and half the price.

Indeed, 1LE is a great car. A close friend of mine had a '17 SS 1LE, and we attended numerous events, together. It was faster than my stock Z51 out of the showroom, but Z51 was consistently faster (2+ seconds) at both ORP and RMP, when I simply added coilovers; a $2.5K investment.

Another point to note is consumables. Camaro will likely have more, due to heavier weight. Corvettes are usually easier on the tires, etc., but the tires are more expensive due to their sizing.

Agreed...

For a serious tracker, I would go NA all the way.

I'd start with the GS with iron brakes, and get a set of dedicated track tires/wheels/brake-pads - that will be a lot of car for any track.
