Default X-pipe too loud in cabin?

Hey all,

I've been playing around with various setups and currently have the borla x-pipe and stock everything else. The cold start and idle are perfect and have a great grumble, WOT sounds ferocious but inside the cabin the drone or pitch of WOT just isnt sitting well with me.
Anyone else not like the sounds an Xpipe added at least at WOT?

I had a hellcat before with similar xpipe modification and i felt like it maybe had better sound dampening into the cabin? Not sure... I'm considering going back to stock midpipe as I actually enjoy the car better now in touring mode (2 valves closed) and now it only gets insane loud at WOT and once it reached approx. 3500 RPM or you just floor it from the line it also opens all the way up (i have the fused installed obviously). This is the first time in my life I'm actually preferring the exhaust to be less loud so I can enjoy more of the hard pulls and engine sounds of the car. Although not as loud as a hellcat the supercharger on the z06 can definitely be heard and it's refreshing!

Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Quality of sound is obviously subjective. I like the sound of my Borla X-pipe with #42 pulled.

There is a phenomenon of car ownership where the exhaust from the factory just isn't ever right. It doesn't matter what it sounds like, how loud it is, or how it works with/without valves. Some number of owners will want to change it.

The Z06 is a loud car when completely stock. There are a few in my community and they can be heard a block or two away as they fire up in the morning. You're totally normal in feeling that stock is loud enough. While I too sometimes think about changing things, I always revert back to the idea of 'leave it alone' since it's already plenty loud. Heck, I even wear ear plugs during track events because I get tinnitus on cool down laps while wearing a helmet. The loud bass sounds at lower RPMs when the exhaust is hot reverberate in the helmet and magnify themselves.

Well I went ahead and put the stock pipe back on.. and I think you're on to something with the phenomenon of a new car not being loud enough because I absolutely think it sounds perfect now at stock again. I had to go around once or twice figuratively speaking I guess to actually realize how great stock actually sounds and more importantly how it sounds to me.

I feel so revitalized about this z06 now!! Happy days.

I'm pretty sure folks in the next town over hear me fire her up every morning.

I just took my 10 year old cousin for a ride. He said it's the loudest car he's ever been in. And it's bone stock. He still liked the V10 R8 better and I have to agree with him.

I beg to differ. It’s way louder inside and out vs oem. But it the tone that is disappointing to me. My C6Z with headers no cats sounded sweet even after adding a big cam. The C7Z tone with no cats sounds abnoxious and nothing to do with how a V8 should sound like.

This thread is interesting because I've been going back and forth about whether to put the Borla X-pipe on my car in the spring. I know that at least a couple people have said that it makes the car a little louder at WOT, but that it also takes away some of the V8 rumble which is something I might not be happy with ultimately. Hope more people with the Borla can chime in with their thoughts.

Currently, I have the Corsa Extreme setup with their Double Helix X-pipe and simply love the sound!

Honestly, I'm not sure how it can be "too loud" in the cockpit. Who needs a radio when you have that beautiful sound coming from your exhaust!

OP I am a little confused on your defination of droan at WOT? Ususally droan is at highway speeds, I've never heard it equated to WOT.

I have a corsa extreme and X pipe on a 14 stingray and it was perfect. I ran the same hardware, kept it from the stingray on the Z and its way louder. But no droan. I also ran the X pipe only with the stock exhaust, was OK but the factory cutoff drove me to put the corsa mufflers on.

All subjective.

Can fellow owners with the Borla X-pipe elaborate as to whether or not it takes away some of the low rumble of the exhaust? In this clip you can definitely tell the car is louder after the x-pipe, but it also seems more high pitched and like the low V8 rumble is now gone. I'm thinking I might feel like the OP if I did this mod and ultimately not be happy with it, but thought I'd get some more opinions first. Thanks.

Nothing really changes the LT4's sound for the better IMO.
Make it louder and it just sounds more like a Muscle Car and not a high-performance Sportscar.
I can't think of another car whose looks and sound fight each other more the C7.
I hope GM really pushes their powertrain and acoustic engineers to lose that decades-long sound and move into the 21st century with the C8/ME.

Couldn't disagree more with the above statement, but that's just me.
