My '12 ZR1 get above 230F+ in heavy traffic in Phoenix in the summer for instance. That is normal. However, my car does not have that fuel temp sensor to go into limp mode either.

Please note, I am not talking about perception or if temps increased higher than 210. I am wondering if your car has stopped working completely and you were not able to drive it because it got too hot.

Thank you!
No. 2016 manual.

Have a look at this pic, the car isn't even really trying to cool off until over 225 and at low load, low speed, and some of the highest ambient temps in the country I am not surprised your car was running 233, heater or not. There was no airflow over the cooling system, something you get a lot of at speed, the ECM is programmed to run hot at low load, and the stock fans don't spin up until 225.

A 160 thermostat in your climate would make a big difference, coupled with programming the fans to come on accordingly (I know I know you shouldn't have to do anything it should be perfect from Chevrolet). Let's think about that, perfect from Chevrolet, lol.....

Most cars have dummy gauges, I bet that all the cars around you going slow in the heat are running just as hot but they have no way of knowing so they simply don't care.

Thanks EPA.

Nice, Thanks. Still not "Fuzzy" though...

Only tracked twice (sub 10 laps each ~ Laguna Seca, Thunderhill) multiple Autocross events and even bumper to bumper very heavy traffic in 90degree + temps. Never overheated to limp mode with my ‘15 A8/Z07.

17 ZO7 M7 (totally unmodded)

one track day in cool temps and VERY spirited driving on the roads

oil seems to run a tad hot, but hasn't come anywhere near overheating

voted no. Spirited driving. Buddy has his modified runs 9.7 @140 no cooking enhancements and ran back to back to back 9.7s within minutes at track rental have the slips to back it up. His and mine are A8s. Both pump gas. No race fuel for anyone wondering.

this poll is gin but is it a public poll where we can verify the minority as well as the majority? We all know fanboys and haters will always taint this type of poll. Just sayin.

yes i am sure there will be some taint in the results, there probably already is, but hopefully with a large enough sample those outliers will get washed out anyways. people should just do the right thing, if you don't even have a C7Z, don't vote, simple.

I had to say Yes because it did overtemp at the track once. I don't mean it shut down, I mean the warning came up on the HID and I had to drive differently - that's what I considered an overtemp event.

Keep in mind even with that, it's once in years of ownership that includes other (successful) track days too.

Automatic and no overheating. Haven’t tracked it but drag raced it in 85 degree weather. Only pulled over once for about twenty minutes for me to take a break and the other 3 1/2 hours racing or standing in line with the engine running.

Street temps haven't tracked yet but it will over heat for sure.

Has it over heated or went into Limp mode.. NO I haven't pushed but I know it will.

113* day in Vegas sat at 133* on freeway going 20-30 mph. Cranked heater to help keep it cool. If no heater it probably would of over heated.

88* in So Cal freeway driving 60 mph runs at 122* No spirited driving.

While driving it to the dealer Monday. 55* 40-50 mph runs at 195-197* Stop at stop light climbs to 203* would probably go higher if lights were longer.

hopefully you voted no, based on your reality rather than your fears. this is a perfect example of the perception issue. you don't have a problem even remotely but you think you do or will. let us know when you experience limp mode.
I agree. I only see normal operating temps in those pictures. From the GM Service Manual overheating occurs when coolant temp hits 256 degrees (when check gauges message is displayed). From the Service Manual again if the ECM hasn't put the cooling fan into high speed mode because coolant temps are above 235 degrees then it will put the fan into high speed mode when the oil temp hits 302 degrees (although this condition is probably rare since oil temps that high usually raise the coolant temperature above 235 degrees). Based on the Service Manual it is obvious oil temperature has to be some where above 302 degrees before the engine is considered to be over heating. I have seen the oil temp over heat number listed as 320 but don't know if that is accurate because I can't find it in the FSM. Again, just because you believe numbers in the 240 or 300 range are too high doesn't mean they are too high for this engine. Over heat only occurs when your car says it is too hot.

There are plenty of out of date 50 year old perceptions of what temperatures are considered over heating. However, they are perceptions not facts.

Bill

^^^I completely agree with Bill. Even my “old” ‘95 LT-1 will not turn the fans on high until the water temp reaches 230 degrees. Not sure where the temp sender is on the LT4 but on the early gen LT’s it was in the cylinder head. Old school perceptions from earlier generation engines, that had their temp senders in the intake manifolds, were anything over 200 degrees was overheating. The “key” words in the poll is “Limp mode”.

2016 Z06 M7 without mods at ~14k miles. Never has been in limp mode even with ~20 days last 2 summers with temps over 100.

Change the post to public lets take a look at who's voting here.
