Default Carbon Ceramic Squeak....

My 2016 ZO7 has developed a very annoying brake squeak during low speed easy stops. Sometimes the brakes also make a grinding noise just before stopping. Plenty of wear left on the pads. I did a serious wheel and brake dust cleaning with no effect. The car has less than 7k miles. Is this cause for concern...

Did you burnish the brakes?

Have had two and not had that issue, do get a squeak once in a while it it's high humidity, not any grinding type noise or feel. Track street or both?

You may try several aggressive 60-0 stops and see if it helps.

Don't do low speed easy stops. Shorten the stopping distance so you use the brake pedal harder.

Don’t know what causes the squeak. However, when I wash my car I spray the rotors really good and the calipers. Afterwards no squeaks for about 300 miles or so, then it returns. Wash again, squeaks go away again. Maybe it’s fine dust accumulating between the pads and rotors. But mine stops with every wash, but returns hundreds of miles later.

Only time I notice a slight squeak is pulling into the garage very slow stop. Even this is very random, maybe one out of three times. Not something I can’t live with and the side benefits of phenomenal stopping power and awesome looks more than makes the random squeak a tiny annoyance.

Be careful what you use to clean carbon ceramic rotors. Soap and water only. No harsh chemicals as they can cause damage. Usually aggressive stopping will alleviate most noise issues.

Has anyone had luck using CRC Brake Quiet goop (or similar) on the back of the pads with any luck? I'm in the same boat now as others where the carbon ceramics are nice and quiet after a good wash but then comes right back. Daily driving in the summer doesn't allow for full time aggressive use of the brakes in traffic, so that's not a realistic option. I wash the car every weekend usually but by the end of the week the brake squeal is unbearable!

Mine do the same. And just like everyone else, after washed they will stay quiet for maybe 50-75 miles.

I bought some of the high temp ceramic brake lube from permatex for the pad back and slides. Havent had a chance to apply but I will update everyone once I do

That will 100% fix the issue, temporarily. Don't slather the grease on the pad backings, just add a teeny film of it. Bear in mind, though, that continued driving in the rain and/or car washes where you're blasting the inside of the wheel with water will remove the grease. It'll need to be applied again.

There's no permanent fix for this squeak except: buy new pads and never get them hot. As soon as you get them hot, the anti-squeak stuff on the back of the pad backings burns right off.

Have you guys done the required burnishing procedure?

That quietens down the squeaking a great deal, and if it does come back a couple of high speed stops takes care of it.

Burnishing is what made mine start screaming like a banshee in the first place. Assuming I cooked whatever the anti-squeak compound was on the back of the pads and is why it's now so bad. Hitting the binders hard a few times is no better than taking a hose to the pads (works for a few miles).

Yep. 100%. My C6 ZR1 pads used to do this either right after I burnished them, or after the first few laps on the race track. My Z06 pads are no different.

Once you cook 'em, it's highly likely they're going to squeal.
