Default Steering wheel vibration at 100-120+mph

Just noticed a lot of steering wheel vibration when revving through 3rd gear to redline.

Car has 2k miles on it. Z07 package with carbon ceramic brakes. I swapped the Sport Cup 2 to Super Sports with about 80 miles on the car.
Not sure how good of a job Discount tire does balancing the tires.
Also have Katech titanium lug nuts all around.

Which route should I go first? road force balance? Alignment?

How do I check for bent rim? Haven't hit anything big but Georgia has some bad areas.

Before considering tire balance you need to make sure it isn't something else. Does it vibrate as you describe when you are in 4th or 5th and cross through that speed range? If it is a tire balance issue then it won't make any difference what gear you are in.

I pulled from 80-120 and felt the vibration in the steering wheel start around 100 and worsen up past 120mph in 3rd. I shifted to 4th because a car came into my lane up ahead and I let off the throttle. I get what you're saying, but I can't remember if it was vibrating in 4th or not with 0 throttle. I'll test it out when I get the chance.

I think it’s most likely a bent wheel. A balance issue usually gets better as you go faster, it’s worse at a certain speed like 65 miles an hour then gets better. If you feel it mostly in the steering wheel it’s probably a front wheel but it’s hard to tell which one without swapping it out. When they spin it on a Wheel balance machine you may be able to see the run out of the bent rim.

I really hope it's just a weight that fell off... I baby the car and haven't hit any big bumps.. But the chevy service department has taken the car on 2 30-40 min test drives because I thought I had brake vibration with light pressure but I just needed to burnish the brakes.

This dealership doesn't seem to know anything so I'll be taking it to another from now on. I'll have to schedule an appointment.

I just had a dealer balance my tires. Not road force either. The shop that did it was using an older machine and I had my concerns. Exactly same issue. 80+ felt the vibration start and increased slightly as speeds did.

Now it is gone, I spoke to the tire tech and explained what I felt and asked him to spin the tire first to see if the original balance was off. When I got the car back I went to see him.. He asked if a blind man balanced em before.. LOL He said he had no clue how I didn't feel it at 30 mph.

I just tested it out. Around 80 it starts. Very slight vibration in steering wheel. It worsens past 100+ and is really bad at 120. Happens in any gear. Even 4th cruising 100+

I guess I need a balance and ceck for a bent rim

Just be careful as you are well over the limit. As to the quoted part above, I don't think on or off throttle should affect the vibration, but I get what you mean. It's either in two gears or it isn't per BillD's post/question.

Well the tires are balanced now, but I won't be able to test if it's fixed until it's warmer out

But yes, I always drive with caution.

The C6 ZR1's had a lot of trouble with the carbon brakes doing what you describe.

I still felt it a little around 100mph. Do you have any threads I can read up on with the C6 ZR1's? Did they ever find a solution?

Is it this thread?
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...on-issues.html

I actually did take the car to Rick Hendrick and they refused to do any work to see if the brakes are an issue because of my aftermarket lug nuts. I think it may be in the system because their reason for not doing any more work was written on the paper at pickup.

Should I take them off and try another dealer? I wish it was warmer out so I could see if it's still really bad at high speeds.

Do a search many had the issue. Around 2013 The lug nut excuse? Too unbelievable! They just don't want to mess with the carbon brakes.
Maybe they know about possible issues

Swap those nuts out back to stock and try another dealer if it was just hand written you might be ok at the next dealer and check your disc's for chips. If some chips off it throws the balance off.

They had it printed on the invoice. A lame *** excuse to not see what's wrong with the car. I was really annoyed and picked up the car without saying a word.

If it worsens I might try another dealership. Won't really know until spring though because it's been cold in Atlanta.
