Default Help! Weird sound when releasing clutch and giving gas (Video)

My 2016 c7 z06 started to making a weird noise when letting off the clutch and giving gas. Anyone know what it can be? Supercharger pulley?

I noticed it appears in the video the sound only occurred (to my deaf ears) while you were turning in 1st half of video. Maybe you had the steering wheel pegged all the way to the stop. I've never pegged my steering out due the wheel chatter/hop we have occur, whole different subject. If that is true, I would suspect perhaps a power steering sound instead of clutch. Hopefully other experts (I'm not) will chime in soon, I'm curious.

It also happens when you are driving straight. It is not the steering.

That's the exact 'grinding' noise my M7 Z makes intermittently when letting off the clutch and giving gas from a stop, though for a briefer duration than your vid. Car at a different dealer now being looked at, last dealer could not reproduce. For me, only occurs when tranny fully warm, after some hwy driving.

Very similiar noise myself, intermittent and dealer hasn't been able to make it happen. Mine seems to be mostly when it's cold, but does happen when hot. I've seen another thread a few weeks ago about the same noise, hope one of us gets it figured out.

Are you referring to the low pitched sound that sounds like the recordings in the forest of Sasquatch’s mating calls? I bet that’s the power steering or something in the rotating assembly of the accessory belt or pilot bearing. I would bet it’s the pilot bearing. It’s still under warranty. Get it documented with the dealer. So if they don’t fix it. You have document trail and force the dealer to cover it even when it’s out of warranty.

Yes, the Sasquatch mating call sound. Might be the pilot bearing. Need to take it in for service...

I have the same thing at random times. Has nothing to do with steering.
It's related to the release of the clutch. Hoping someone finds out.

Weird, sounds like some of the newer Shelby’s rear ends. They recommend doing several figure eights in a parking lot to quiet the noise (funny thing is it worked). Good luck, let us know what they find.

Ah, the ol' clutch hoot, or "barking seal". It's very common with the metallic clutches, less so with the organic compounds. Usually a few really strong hole shots will make it go away.

Are you implying that this is normal? I've never heard it in any other car and i've had manuals my entire life.

I actually did a couple launches and it fixed the problem. Dropped the clutch three times at around 4k RPM. Weird.

How many street-driven, 650 horsepower manuals have you had?

Clutches tend to involve various sorts of compromises, just like brake pads, suspensions, engines, and even brake fluids.

Had the same thing happen in a 2011 Mini Cooper S. Mini replaced the clutch under warranty.

I should have tried that with the Mini, maybe that would have solved it back then!

Definitely not isolated to just big HP cars.

Anybody ever get a dealer to figure out what the clutch noise is? Mine has done it for a while now and seems to be getting more frequent. Hopefully the next time I take it in for service it will make the noise and they'll actually look at it.

Flush the clutch fluid. Yes I know it sounds stupid, but it will fix the noise.

Default C7 16 Z06 M7 Clutch Squawk

I agree with the clutch fluid fix several others have noted. My 16 Z06 M7 started making the squawk heard on several of these videos. ~15K miles. After reading the forum threads on this, I went after the fluid fix. FIrst thing I discovered was fluid LOW. No leaks no drips. As far as I can tell no one has ever checked the clutch fluid (my bad) and it may have been low from the factory. Filled with DOT 4 fluid and, so far, have not heard the "Clutch Squawk". Clutch actually feels smoother on engagement in 1st as well.

Checked my '16 Z M7 about a year ago, after driving for a year, & fluid was VERY low from factory also. This because there were no leaks & it hasn't dropped ANY since (just back from 1500 miles trip) so I checked it.
