I think the ZR 1 is a great car, but it's kind of the last hurrah for the C7 platform. I will keep my Z06 until the Z06 variant of the mid engine comes out. I did the same with my C6 Z. Never got the itch for the C6 ZR1 , and glad I waited for the C7 Z06.
I'm sure I will be glad I waited this time around as well.

i hear ya, but i think the difference between C6 Z06 and C6 ZR1 was MUCH more drastic than the C7 Z06 and the C7 ZR1. Imo, i would keep the Z06 and wait at least 2 years the ZR is out. By then you most likely will be focused of the C8 ME and be damn glad you didnt paid MSRP plus 10K like idiots with too much money will rush to do!!

The mid-engined Corvette will certainly be cool and different, but who's to say whether it will actually outperform the C7 Z06? Lots of mid-engine cars don't.

I'm confident the next generation Z will be an improvement in every way. Every Corvette generation has been a performance improvement over the previous. I love the current Z and how it stacks up against everything, including mid engine supercars. I can't imagine the next gen, mid engine Z being less of a performer.

I am not too sure the upgrades will justify the price of the mid engine, but i guess we will see.

Not a fan of the looks. Looks like some kind of bird from the front. A pelican maybe. Also the big wing... and big hood. Haven’t seen one in person but the only thing that intrigues me is the power and that can be matched pretty easily with the C7Z

My feeling on the ZR1 is that I'd be spending nearly $50k more than I did on my Z06 only to have a car that turns a lap a couple seconds faster in expert hands. I don't see it changing my track day experience. It definitely won't change my street driving experience. So the $50k premium equates only to my own ego of having and showing off a ZR1. Most people in my town yawn at Corvettes, Bentleys and any AMG Merc or P-car. Even a Ferrari that isn't an immediately released model is common place. So I'm not turning any heads with a ZR1.

Ultimately I decided I'd rather spend my coin on family boat, a Tahoe RST, and trailers to tow the Z06 and boat around.

Seeing that you are from Naples I am sure you are right on all of those aspects. Spend it on a huge CC boat and you will stand out haha.

I agree. You can't use all of LT1s power on the street let alone the LT4 or LT5 so there isn't any real difference from a street perspective. From a track perspective I am lapping VIR a hairs breadth less than 2:05 and there others lapping at 1:58. That means I am not getting everything out of the Z06 that I could get. A Z06 with the upgraded MRC calibrations and a pro driver can lap at 1:55 so I know it can go even faster. I have 10 seconds to work with before I start pushing the limits of the car instead of my limits. A ZR1 may help me get a better lap time due to the increased aero thus helping me get through the uphill Esses faster and the increased power would take me a little faster on the straights but I can get all of that just by learning to get the most out of my car. As for modding a Z06 for more power it gets down to why do it if you can't use the extra power. Drivers lift at a certain speed no matter how much power they have. The driver's mind set has to change before they change the car or it is just money down the drain.

If I can get some PDR data of a fast driver with an SC 757 at VIR I'll try to compare them, but based on the one time I got to drive a student's car it didn't feel significantly faster. Now I wasn't driving it very hard either because it wasn't my car.

However, look at the VIR videos that Chevy has released of the ZR1 and the Z06. Even if you ignore the downforce and cornering speed improvements the ZR1 is going to destroy the Z06 on the road course. I don't know how much of that is motor, how much is the trans, and how much is aero but the ZR1 is pulling huge speed deltas of 15-20 MPH on the Z06 in the straights. This is going to be far more than a Z06 with an extra 100 HP.

If can you afford to buy a ZR1 and then buy a C8 a year or two later, then get the ZR1. If not, wait for the C8.
