Is it worth putting on an aftermarket exhaust on a Z06?
I have a 2018 z06 2lz auto. I always leave my exhaust in "Track" and steering in "Sport" as this car is my daily driver. I have gotten lots of compliments on how good the factory exhaust sounds and I like it how I can put it in "Stealth" at anytime. I have heard of the infamously loud billy boat exhausts and those by Akrapovic. The car is more fast than I can handle so any performance gains by more horsepower or reduced weight mean nothing to me. Also I bought a 10 year/100k zero deductible bumper 2 bumper warranty on the car and dont want to void it.
In my case would it make sense to get an aftermarket exhaust to make it sound louder.

it doesn't make sense in my opinion.

Yes! I put on magna flow competition exhaust and it changed the car. Sounds like a racecar the way it should of come from the factory.

Definitely worth it in my opinion. Especially the Akrapovic axle back, the sound of titanium is so raw. I love it and so do many others. It is pricey but in my opinion, worth it.

Makes sense if you are not happy with the NPP sound and system flexibility.

I think the sound the Z06 makes from the factory, matches the car perfectly. A sleek, somewhat subdued sound cruising around, and then loud as hell when you want it to be. I don't think the "musclecar" sound matches this car.

I love the sound of track mode but I live in a condo so it is nice I have a choice to quiet it down.
The best part of track mode is that I don't have to deal with drone at highway speed. I usually change an exhaust but I'm leaving this one alone.
I wish my 15 had popping noise when I let off the gas though.

You could always meet in the middle (literally) and add a Borla X-pipe which adds some additional growl without a full axle-back conversion. Plus you also keep the NPP. If you choose a full system, I like the sound of the Corsa Xtreme kit plus the added look of their black chrome exhaust tips, but you lose NPP.

If you like the exhaust the way it is, I wouldnt advise changing it.. As others have already said, a good compromise if you think you need it louder would be to swap to a Borla X pipe.
FWIW: I have a full Akrapovic exhaust on a 2017 Z06 and have just the Borla X pipe on my wife's 2018 Z06. So I am telling you this from first hand experience.....

I think the set up was changed in 16 or 17. The actual exh might not have changed but I think GM changed the MAP or something to make it pop. I'm jealous.

Sounds like the factory exhaust is for you, from your post you are pretty happy with in. I love corsa and would have nothing else. We’re all different

Keep it original. It is loud in Track Mode but somewhat subdued when you are off throttle. However, when you are at wide open throttle it is LOUD. Just the way it should be. Also when in quiet mode it doesn't drone while you are on a trip and want to hear the radio or who ever may be riding in the car with you. The aftermarket exhausts don't provide any more HP that the straight pipe that exists when the NPP is set into Track Mode. I doubt any are all that much lighter and for the cost they just aren't worth making a change.

I saved 9 lbs with a Borla X pipe, and 12 lbs with the MF exhaust, (21 lbs total).
I wish I would have replaced the X pipe first, then decided whether or not to replace the exhaust...
It is an incredible sound, but it's too loud for casual use. Anything over about 40-50mph and you can't hear the passenger over the exhaust - not that that's always a bad thing, but...lol
Like I say, switching both gives you an incredible sound... just be prepared for how loud it is.

I had Borla Stingers on my C5 and for the first couple of years I loved how loud and mean it sounded(of course anything was better than the stock C5 exhaust that sounded like it belonged on a Buick). After a while, however, it really began to wear on me and by the time I got rid of the car I absolutely hated how loud it was. I think the factory exhaust on my Z06 is perfect. It's still more aggressive than 99.8% of the cars on the road, but it doesn't punish you the way some of the aftermarket systems do.
