I wonder if buying a hood from a wrecked 2017 would work. I notice mine does not have the vin on it but does have the 2016 on it.
100% correct, California has a stricter warranty on the emissions system Vs. other states. I assume that GM has shipped ALL new vehicles with CA CARB compliant stickers on them. They all smog check the same and pass. I'm certain that CARB collects a good revenue from this type of certification for a sticker.

My company builds medical devices. I get the over compliance and dollars needed to sell a product in CA. If one of our products gets shipped WITHOUT a sticker, one can't be installed in the field. The sticker can only be installed at the factory.

Bottom line is I will WIN in all of this, SHE is mine.......

Good grief ! What a massive PITA to serve the bureaucracy in Kommiefornia.

"Hi, we're from the CA government and we're here to HELP you !"

Good luck in defeating the bureaucrats - hopefully a GM factory-provided compliance sticker will likely solve your miserable (...and utterly idiotic) issue.

Your efforts and additional money spent will yield no cleaner air; that is the "beauty" of the bureaucrats. Ughh....!

Source out a wrecked hood, buy it for a few bucks, heat gun the sticker off and transfer to your hood. Should be good to go.

Hopefully the hand filled out form means your VIN isn't in the CA system because if it is even once the correct sticker is on the hood you may still have hoops to jump through. For this reason I would follow the advice of others to go through the GM dealer to get the decal rather than acquire one from a parts car so that you will have the proper paperwork trail back through GM to use as ammo fighting your way through the state bureaucracy.

I wonder if the sticker would come off with a heat gun and maybe Heptane to deactivate the glue binder, then transfer to the new hood?

I'm going to assume that, being an emissions sticker, it's important that it be HARD to move from one vehicle to another (which is not what you're going, I get that). If you can get a new decal from GM, that's the answer.

Your selling dealer (if a Chevrolet dealer) should be able to get you a label. If not check with a nearby dealer to see if they are available. Let us know what you find out. --Bob

The dealer should have known that detail. When I ordered my Z thru a dealer in Wisconsin, Mike Reilly brought that up, and CA emissions RPO was added to the order. Is nothing but a damn sticker. My Z has 4 cats like everybody else.

Any good print shop should be able to duplicate a sticker for you.

Reason #532 why I will never live in California (this from the guy who lives in the Peoples Republic of Illinois). Sorry to hear that. Best of luck.

I could as my daughter lives in Sparks, I have considered it and the bonus is CA wouldn't get a dime...

Oh I get it and YES they have filed a notice of refusal with technical compliance section MS C271. So we will see what's next AFTER I get a sticker from the factory.

May need to hire an attorney so you arent given run around at DMV. I was aware of the 7500 mile rule but shouldn't be applicable in this instance.

Well I have ordered a sticker from GM and will arrive in 10 days.
I also got a pic of the original sticker from the original owner.

Let's hope DMV puts down the Crack pipe and gives me the VIN Verification.

That's for sure.... On the bright side this thing is amazingly fun to drive.

The original owner apparently never burnished the brakes. After a spirited run on my local mountain roads I had a real pucker moment when I had a BIGTIME green fade. Time to Burnish these bad boys.

Sticker is key - when I went shopping out of state, I made sure it had the sticker. I ending up ordering my Z shipped to CA with a courtesy delivery (and CA code), which they registered it at the CA dealer. I also shopped many dealers who would send me photos of the sticker for CA before I made the purchase. The dealer should have know this or at least add the correct sticker on the hood. They should resolve this for you.

Default Out of state. Z in ca

You are a funny one.... libs did this to you? Is it a factory hood? Sounds like you can't find your behind with both hands. So you buy a vette from across the country and don't research first then blame the state?
