Radar detector
Looking at buying a detector for my Z. I've narrowed it down to 3, Valentine 1, Escort 360, or Uniden R3. Leaning towards the Uniden but wanted to see if anyone here uses one and who likes what. The Escort is really pricey, not sure if it's worth it. Thanks in advance for any advice

Radar detectors work best when used with WAZE app. and a Rabbit*.
* How to use a Rabbit, Wait till a faster driver passes you. Fall in behind him. Repeat this process until you are driving the speed you prefer. Hang back as far as possible and still keep the rabbit's brake lights clearly visible. When the Cop turns on his radar to catch the rabbit your detector will go off and you can slow down and wave to the rabbit while he is getting pulled over. If rabbit turns off, repeat the process.
See the Rabbit, be one with the Rabbit, NEVER be the Rabbit.

A friend of mine has the valentine and swares by it. Also most of the cross country, unofficial races, the drivers use multiple devices and the valentine is one of them. I plan to get one myself.

Expecting my R3 tomorrow. According to the reviews it has the best range. The Max 360c has the nice electronics - automatically learns false readings, has Escort Live (like Waze), and the arrows which everyone loves. I chose the long range and price of the R3. I am going to tap into my mirror this weekend to use the power for the Uniden. I understand that the patent for the arrows that Escort uses runs out in 2020 and so I am sure Uniden will want to use that popular feature. Hopefully in a few years when the new detectors come out I can use my current mirror tap set up. If you're interested in how to do that I have a couple posts with useful links and videos that others shared with me. Of course YouTube is your friend.

I have 3 of the Escort 360 units. They are very expensive but they are totally awesome. The key features are they (1) learn repeat radar sources which eliminate most false alerts. They have a (2) database that stores important traps like photo traps red light cameras and other speed traps. The 360 uses (3) real time network to get locations of radar detected by other detectors through Escort Live using a cell phone and Bluetooth connection. It also (4) displays signal direction front left right or behind so you know where the source is located. The firmware is updated (5) through the network to minimize false signals from new collision prevention systems used by various manufactures. Range detection (6) is more that required to get slowed down without slamming on the brakes. Last they were giving ticket protection (7) coverage for the first year of ownership when I purchased my units.

Same here. I make sure its connected to the car's wifi at all times to keep receiving updates and I run waze at the same time. Nothing is guaranteed but I feel a lot safer driving this way. The only negative is that the Escort Live app goes down A LOT and you need to use many of the features of the detector.

Love the R3, for the price it's the best out there. The range is amazing and once tweaked the false alarms are minimal. I think the arrows (front/rear) on the 360 is a nice touch but just didn't think that was worth the extra cash. R3 is no bigger then my old 9500ix too.

Realistically any of those 3 are good choices and will do the job. It boils down to how many bells and whistles you want/need.

I've been an Escort guy for years but just picked up the Uniden R3 to replace my Escort Max 2, which is similar in performance to the 360 (minus arrows). R3 is tough to beat right now as a good "all-arounder".

Not sure about the range. Like I said my current has much more than what they show for the MAX 360C but in truth it doesn't. A grain of salt for me on the accuracy with that range chart. If you have 1500ft of warning on radar is plenty that is further than they can read you.

I have had both the Valentine and now have the Max360. I like the size of the Valentine but the 360 was more user friendly IMO. The Escort Live app is good but I rarely use it. I use WAZE and the detector and (knock on wood) have been good with that. Lot more people using WAZE and marking the PoPo than those using Escort Live. Those tools along with “situational awareness” will keep you protected.

Just ordering the Uniden R3 looks like it will fit on the escort mount hoping it will work on the escort 9500 mount. The Escort live you can down load the app to your phone.
