Personally, I love the looks of my Z06 so much that I wouldn't do it. Yes 105 extra hp is always nice, but if I ever feel the need for more power(which I can't imagine) I can always send my car to Callaway and have a car with 757 hp that's still better looking than a ZR1. Besides I don't track my car so having a ZR1 strictly for street use seems a bit insane.

I've got a '15 3LZ Z07-A8 and don't really see much that would make me want to upgrade to the ZR1 - unless it was destined for a LOT of track use. That said, if money were absolutely no object, then sure - why not!

The only thing I don't quite like about the car is the front bumper. Seems to me that they could have blended the venting a little better. Otherwise, I think the car is very nice!

Ordered a coupe and convertible (for my wife), both in orange with the orange package thing, keeping the 17' Z06/Z07, will be 13th and 14th Corvette I have owned, one will have to go, betting it's the wife's convertible ZR1, she is eyeing something else in the garage

You ordered not one but two ZR1s? You sir are a certifiable bad ***.

My car came with 2hp more the ZR1, and though I do like the ZR1 a lot, I’ve already modded my z and I don’t think it would be a wise or cost effective move for me. If I were in a stock z and wanted more HP, and was not worried about even tuning (cause that won’t happen for a while with the new ZR1), I’d pull the trigger on one.

I think a couple of people have hit the correct answer. If you feel that the 650 hp is not enough Callaway can get you up to the ZR1s power for less than the cost for a ZR1. In Kalifornia we get no break on sales tax for a trade in, so it would cost 8% of the full $140,000 to register a ZR1. That makes the Callaway choice a compelling one.

Frankly as a street driver of a convertible Z, I see no reason to get a ZR1. I do see a reason to get a ME in 2020 or 2021 when the widebody comes out.

I've had a 2014 Stingray, one of the very first 2015 Z06, and now a 2017 Z06 that I've had since last June and only has about 4700 miles on it. My ZR1 should be here in June and I will be trading my Z06.

For me, I really enjoyed being one of the first folks to extensively track the Z06 and getting to learn and share that experience with others. The ZR1 is far more than just some added HP. Just look at the VIR videos GM posted of the C7 Z06 and the C7 ZR1 side by side. The ZR1 is going to absolutely destroy the Z06 on the road course. In those videos you can clearly see that the ZR1 is 15-20 MPH faster anywhere you are accelerating for an extended period. Add to that what is likely an extra 800 lbs of downforce over the Z06 and it will be a beast. I can't wait.

Yes, I am going to lose my shorts on my Z06 but it's only going to continue to lose value the longer I own it. I might as well take the hit now and move forward.

I don't agree with the many C7 Z06 owners that claim the ZR1 is ugly, it isn't much faster, etc. It is clearly a superior sports car.
Superior sports car than the Z06 YES! Uglier sports car than the Z06 YES too!

There is little doubt that the way you use your Corvettes that the ZR1 is the thing for you to own. Clearly for a track rat it is going to be the cat's meow and for several years into the ME cycle that will stay true.

Your question is a bit all over the place here. First "Would you move to...?" and then "is it worth it?"

Would I move to it? Had I the funds, I wouldn't hesitate for half a second. No question I'd be in one. Is it worth it? Well that's a personal thing. It would be worth it to me, but I have no idea if it'd be worth it to you. Only you know that.

I agree.

If you have a Z06, it makes almost no sense in going into the ZR1 unless YOU KNOW it's the last vette in a long time. Which by most corvette owners, that's never the case lol.

Now if you have a base, or a grand sport, then yes the upgrade is worth it, because the gap is too big between either car and the ZR1. Whereas the gap between the Z06 and the ZR1 is minimal. (in terms of HP/overall looks, track time blah blah).

I thought about upgrading to the ZR1, if they make one for the 2020 year (to sort out any bugs it may have) but then i thought that the C8 is just around the corner. So 2 years into to the C8 years, the Z06 will be made. So i figure maybe 2022-2023 we'll see the C8 Z06.

I'll wait for that. Hopefully GM will use a dual clutch this time, then i can finally see what an auto toy is all about. Until then it's manual all the way

It's not really uglier.

The front bumper i wish i had. I am not sure what GM was thinking with the wheels and the 10 minute rear wing bolt on though

If z06 had the blower, hood and diff front bumper for cooling it would be just as fast my opinion. That's what GM should done to fix cooling problem on Z06.

Life is short but I have always owned a corvette since 1969. There has been significant improvement in all areas with each generation change. I have owned 3 Z06ís and each was unbelievable when compared to the base model. I didnít buy a C6 ZR1 because the cost differential was significant and the performance different was not. I decided to drive my Ď08 Z06 until the C7 Z06 hit. I bought a Ď16 Z06 and will likely drive it until the C8 Z06 hits the market and buy after the over price year 1 frenzy is done. I guess I am a creature of a long term addiction. Ha ha. I donít like the looks of the C7 ZR1 with the front fascia and big wing so it makes passing it up easier. My 2c.

The Z06/Z07 is fast. Really fast. The ZR1's are only going to be marginally faster on the street, and under 120-130 MPH. While the LT5 is certainly a more powerful and better engine with PI and DI and the 2650 blower, in stock form, under 100 MPH, traction is going to dictate that the ZR1 really isn't that much faster. An owner on the ZR1 section already posted that he only got 1 more MPH on the same stretch of road that his Z06 got. Both A8 cars. Now I'm not saying the car isn't fast, because it is, it IS faster than a Z06, and I'm sure the ZR1 will neuter basically any car in the world around a track. If that's what you are after, then yes, it's probably worth it to you.

I personally am not in love with the looks of the ZR1. The only part that I love about it is the big hood. The Wing is not my thing (Poet and don't know it). And I don't really like the front end that much. Though it does look aggressive. I like the spoiler and aero of a stage 2/3 Z06 so much better. But this is personal opinions.

All of that so far is opinion, though some of it is facts like traction limited and just not much further you're going to push the front engined/rear wheel drive/high HP car. Now, here's the BIG problem I have with it.

If the C8 Corvette comes out and it's mid-engined, even the "Stingray" "base model" with possibly 500-550 HP, INSTANTLY the front engined Corvettes become old news. Not that they're not fast and suddenly are massively outdated, but the words on the tip of every car guys tongues are going to be MID-Engined Corvette. And if I just spent $140k on a ZR1, only to be outdated a model year or two later, I'd have to upgrade again. I personally am going to enjoy my Z07, wave at the ZR1 guys, and have a great time. And when the C8 comes out, I'll be first in line.

JMO. Now wait for Mr.Gizmo and 3 Z06ZR1 to show up...
Nice post not much to add!

Some mods and the Z06 goes over 1000rwhp it is matter of what you want. I like the Z06 a lot and since the new car is coming out.
I was considering it. A few things Z06's can be had less than MSRP and the ZR1 not for a bit if at all if they keep the numbers low. Then are you going to tinker with that car? Not me.

But I will tinker on a Z06 all day. So I bought a second Z06. So a little tinkering Gave me ZR1 power now I'm working on ZR1 cooling. The ZR1 M7 made 664 2 out 3 pulls. Mine made 673 today on pump gas. So I'm happy!

I assumed I would not upgrade to a ZR1, but I saw several last week when they were heading to Spring Mountain. They do look good in person!

I am glad that so many here don't want to get one. This will leave the ZR1 for the people who like to track, which is really where this car belongs.

I'll be getting one if I can order my own build and get it at a decent price.

Your right there the aftermarket is strong for the Z06. Lots of go fast and cooling stuff. LG has cooling kit that is awesome and looks like the GT2 Porsche cheek coolers. Track tested!
