I would 100% admit it if I really liked its looks and wish I could own a C7 ZR1 but since I don't I won't.

I suppose there are some wishing they could buy one.
Then there are the ones who did when the hype wears off wished they would have held off even though they may never admit it! Esp ones carrying a payment book!

It's like having a beautiful girl and seeing another one that's got just a little more of everything. Is it worth it to take a ride? Only you can decide that one. I've got a 15 z06 with 11,000 miles and I'm seriously thinking it might be. If they perform as well on the track as I think they will I may just have to take the plunge and find out.

If money were no object, sure, I would trade up. But, money is and I figure my 2016 is worth about $65K in the real world. The ZR1 I built on Chevy's sight was $135K. Not many discounts on the ZR1 right now. So, $70K for an new front end and 105 hp? I'm going to pass for now.

After 3 years of listening to folks complain about the C7 Z06 I'm glad to at least see a lot of folks finally appreciating that model. I guess all you need is something new to complain about.

Exactly.

I guess zr1 is awesome too for bragging rights because the z06 is now not the king of the hill anymore. So if you have a lot of pride, upgrade to the zr1 just to say you have the "top of the line" vette.

But I'll just wait here for the c8 z06 lol. And enjoy my c7z in the meantime.

At this point and after owning several vettes (including a C6ZR1), I’d have to say no. I’m enjoying my ZO7 too much and about to do my first round mods. Like others have said, if money was absolutely no issue then certainly.

This question also is highly dependent on how you use the car and what skill level you’re at. An average guy can’t come anywhere near the ZO6’s potential, so when you look at from that perspective, the ZR certain doesn’t make much sense.

In the end, the only person who really decides if the upgrade makes sense or not is the buyer-end of story.

Me personally I sold my 16 Z06/Z07 for a ZR1 loved the car but there were subtle things that I didn’t like neither but she will be in a new home soon. Sold it for 75k so I don’t think I did too bad either. I thought about upgrades then thought it’s going to be a good 20k more to upgrade the SC/coolers or should I just dump that into the latest and greatest? Personal opinion but I believe ZR1’s spec’d the way I’m making it will hold their value better than my zo6 in the long run plus the way I look at it is the whole package..
- 2650 SC (upgrade possibilities are going to be insane)
- direct injection from the factory (we all know there’s limitations with the zo6 when it comes to fuel)
- additional coolers
- factory A8 upgraded tune
- plus the body upgraded subtleties (that are functional)
- rear spider gear has been upgraded as well
- warranty
- improved braking
- uniqueness and wow factor restored

I’m sure there’s more that I’m missing but that alone was enough for me to do it and don’t get me wrong I loved my Z just like I loved my Z51

Also you can expect no overheating at the track just like my ZL1 doesn't what so ever. Shame, its what I thought my Z06 was thought to be a track beast. Unfortunately it does have its flaws.

I own a 2017 Z06/Z07 M7 in Watkins Glen Gray Metallic.
To date I have installed a Corsa Full Exhaust w/Black Oval Tips, LG Motorsports Drop Spindles, Xpel Paint Protection and CQartz Ceramic Coating. The car is beautiful and even more importantly, is mine. I do hold the title.
Now, back to my question, is the new ZR1 worth losing ownership over and inquiring a car payment and is the price of the ZR1 really worth the cost over a well equipped Z06?
What do you Z06 owners think?
If I were in your shoes, no, I would keep the ZO6.

I'm facing a similar situation but in all honesty I can remove everything but the xpel and put it on the zr1. If I get one that's what I'll do. Seats, suspension, everything.

The ZR1 has a Hate It/Love It look to the car. Personally I'm having trouble loving it vs. liking it. Bragging rights would be awesome. The Callaway package gets you the power if you don't track the car, which I don't, and may look into for $18k. I love the looks and everything about my Z06. It is already plenty fast but of course I would love to have the LT5 technology. Truthfully having trouble reconciling the Love It/Hate It looks of the ZR1. It is also hard for me to shell out that kind of money, the Z06 is expensive enough, and the Callaway package is growing on me. Short answer is I may move up in power but not the ZR1 unless much more affordable and the looks grow on me in a few years. I also own mine with pink slip in hand, so I can't see doing payments.

OP I wouldn't trade my 16 Z06 for a new ZR1, not yet anyway.

My 16 Z06 is a daily driver and is never tracked. It’s stock and will stay that way. I have no plans to get a ZR1.
If you guys like them, go for it.

No I will absolutely not be moving up to it look at the lap time difference at VIR I'm just not spending an extra $50,000 to go a a second ish faster.

Its not a large enough evolution to change.

The zr1 is a z06 with an LG cooling setup, a wing, ported blower, pulley and e85 tune.

Plus i pay way to much taxes to the state of California and it would be a $12,000 charge on top of last years $8500 for the z06 😵

love my 2016 z06 and way more power than I need. As Dave has said in over 100 posts the wing is ugly but you can get 1 with the lower wing. If I traded up it would be strictly for bragging rights as I don't track. Still I see the appeal and happy for the guys that get one.

Not for me. While there are a FEW people who have the necessary skills to effectively utilize a ZR1 on a track, putting it on the street is just a massive dose of an ego on steroids.

When you have to worry about the temperature of the pavement and the tires ability to grip to safely drive these cars, it's an accident waiting to happen.

I do like the looks, the wing really sets it off.

If you have a Z06 I think it's crazy to upgrade to a ZR1. 50-70k more just for 100 HP, better cooling and the bragging rights.

The king of the hill? It won't be king of the hill for too long and we all know that. I thought the bumper was ridiculous when I first saw it but it grew on me.. I would def buy a ZR1 if it's around $100k w/ discounts as I think it's worth $15-20k more than a Z06 at most.

Z06 with 2LZ + Z07/stage two aero + comp seasts/suede wheel + black rims + carbon dash= $99,325
ZR1 with 1ZR + ZTK + Comp seats + suede wheel + carbon flash rims = $128,275

The difference is $28,950 and not to mention I can get $10-12k off a Z06 here in SoCal.

And I have already made up my mind not to move up. I love my Z06 and the ZR1 just doesn’t justify the additional cost to me. It doesn’t mean I don’t think about it. Reason for asking the question.
I bought a 2017 ZO6 for 70k then sent it to Callaway for 19k, so for 89k i have 757 HP and 777 Lb/ft of torque. I retained the full GM warranty, so for me i already have a lot of (not all) the ZR1 performance advantage over the ZO6 at 50k less.
