Default Driving with negative boost numbers

I have a good friend that has a new Z06. He drives very conservative and tells me he has never seen the supercharge gauge show a positive boost number.

I know, but don't go there! It's his car and that is how he chooses to drive it.

His question is whether nor not this will hurt the engine.

Nope - it won't hurt the engine.

Lol. Ask him how his other cars run without a supercharger.

Interesting question. I can see a concern if running high/too much boost, but worried about running negative/low boost? My only concern with driving the car like a nannie all the time would be excessive carbon buildup or something...

Yes it does, driving like a Nanny can lead to catastrophic events. You must now take the vehicle to the nearest mod shop and start modding it!!

Negative boost? Oh, you mean vacuum... LOL
It's how every car runs when cruising around. It's very rare to see a "normal" NA car reach 0 vac/boost even under full throttle because intakes are so restrictive.
My only question is why he got a boosted car if he's not going to use the boost? But to each their own.

Who looks at the boost where you are on the gas with 650hp?

It's terrible for the car, will make it blow engine parts all over the road.
Tell your friend that he needs to have you take his car to the race track periodically.

Yes, if he doesn't take it out and run it under boost at 14psi for at least 10 seconds (sustained) every oil change doesn't he know that he's going to carbon-foul the intercooler tubes?

Geez, you'd think they would have told him this at dealer. If nothing else he's going to get to his first emissions test when it's required and the blower will probably be frozen in its bore by that time.

Funny stuff here!

As I read one of the earlier replies, it reminded me of a Kaw Ninja 1100 that I owned several years ago. I wanted it to last, like, forever - so I babied it a bit. The more I babied it, the worse it ran. So I took it to the dealer and explained what I was doing. He told me to take it out and ride it like I stole it! I did as advised and never had another problem.

I'm not saying that these cars will start running badly if not driven hard - but that's kind of the point of having a performance machine (even if only occasionally)!

I work with a guy who was once a Caddy mechanic. He said often a poorly running CTS-V was just a result of never getting on it.

Tell him he needs to stop letting his wife drive the car and put his foot down when he gets the chance.

First time I lit into it with my wife in the car it scared her a bit. Obviously it's loud as hell and gets going in a big hurry, but the way she drives her Audi S4 I thought she'd be ok. It scared her enough that she told me to never do that again when she's in the car. I took that as permission to go hotrodding by myself anytime I want.

LOL, my wife has ordered me to never never never get on it without warning her first. As long as I always remember do that, she'll kinda sorta put up with it, but still isn't happy about it at all!
