Default A couple rolls in Mexico w/C6 ZR1

Took a road trip to Mexico to play today. Ran my buddy’s 8k mile C6 ZR1. I figured he would beat me but it was closer then I thought.

Mine is a 2016 C7Z, A8, CAI only, the C6ZR1 has a 2.35” upper, CAI, Gforce tune and made 620 rwhp on 93 oct.

First pass, I got a slight jump on the 3rd honk.

Our second run, dead even start

Pretty close I’d say, I figured he’d pull worse up top. He is going in for a lower pulley and e85 next week so....I won’t likely be racing him again...lol

Nice work! On the dyno my A8 with just a Halltech made 582rwhp/604rwtq plus the A8 has a gearing advantage. So yeah it should be close!

Mine made 565 rwhp, the C6 ZR1 made 620 rwhp but on a different dyno.

I figure with 55hp more, 250lbs lighter and more aero dynamic, that he would have straight ran off from me....wasn’t the case. No doubt he would have kept pulling if we kept going but.... not near as bad as I thought.

Our first run, we ran to 160 mph and he was 1 car gap behind my rear bumper....

I think the second round hot lap affected my car more then his since his is tuned.

Either way we had a good time.

Yeah a sweet spot for me is a 40-45 mph, 2nd gear roll, but I likely would have spun on this asphalt road. Also, he would have had to start in 1st and he would blown the tires off for sure.

We were trying to make it as even of a start as we could.. Hence the 70 roll. Lol

Nice video. Did you start out in M3, then put it in D or did you shift manually the whole way?

Yeah I start in M3, nail it and instantly put it back in Drive and let it shift itself. The paddles are way too delayed and unpredictable for me.

In a roll race, it doesn’t. It actually kind of sucks because general rule of thumb in roll race etiquette is 60 mph starts... which puts an A8 at 3k in 3rd, which is terrible. That’s why we were starting closer to 70 mph so I would be higher in the power band, and the ZR1 could still be in 2nd (top of 2nd). A 60 roll he would have jumped me hard. A 45 roll I would jump him hard.

We were trying to get as even as a test as we could.

Also, the 4-5 shift is a killer on the A8, right when the ZR1 hits its stride in 4th and starts walking.

I wish the gear spacing was tighter on the 4-5, it’s a very critical shift in all forms of racing.

All in all though, I was fairly impressed with the C7Z since everyone claims the ZR1 is SOOOO much faster after 120 mph... On our first run to 160, he was pulling up to me but still 1.5-2 car lengths back... we would have had to ran to 180 before he caught me.

When I had my C6 Z06 at 535 whp, I raced my buddy's C6 ZR1 from a 60 and we were dead even till 4th gear, after that, I started pulling on him pretty hard. His stock blower died up top.

So if you raced one with more power than you from a 70 roll with an A8 car, that's actually pretty damn good imo. I figured he would of ran away from you from a roll regardless of the start speed. You should of asked him to go from a dig...

Yeah, I was kind of baiting 3 Z06ZR1 to give his usual knee-jerk spiel about the the A8 having an advantage because of the lower first gear ratio, compared to the M7. Which, of course, doesn't apply whatsoever to a 70 mph roll situation.

Yet, the second post in the thread, following two videos of a roll race from 70, was him claiming that the A8 has a gearing advantage.

Nice racing! Him with a pulley surely gives him an advantage.

Sound like you had it in Tour? You would have had quicker shifts in Sport mode and maybe a little closer to him.

Awesome runs! Your car had a great showing and it is nice to see someone that can bang gears for once (the ZR1 didn't lose any ground on shifts)

Nice work taking comments out of context in your continued attempt to
criticize my comments in any thread you find them! Your a real piece of work. You always come in adding nothing but ruining a thread for other members! I don't take your crap!
Let me do better!
I ment since my A8 Z06 had 582 rwhp and the OP has the same mods the cars should be close. In a drag race between a 620rwhp ZR1 and the OP's
car generally should close. But from a dig the A8 has a GEARING ADVANTAGE OVER THE ZR1. A point proven over and over that you won't admit I'm right! I would actually give the ZR1 the advantage
on a roll race but it is VERY driver dependant.

Didn't say anything about the videos
I was talking in general! But you saw your chance to grab a few words to find a way to look good in your own little head.
That's for more rent free living!
