I appreciate the effort here, but you are missing the point completely. Sam Walton was not a car guy. Niether is Bill Gates. If a car guy was rich and wanted the best of the best, they wouldn't buy a Z06.

No one buys a Z06 as an investment. Now a limited edition Ferrari, Porsche, etc. would actually have a shot at appreciating and be investment grade if one wanted to justify their love of cars. If I were rich I'd buy a Pagani or a Koennigsegg.

I searched pretty hard for my deal. I paid $74K for my 3LZ new from MacMulkin.....feeling pretty good about the deal I got and not too worried about what others think. I won't lecture anyone on how they treat their money, I know there's tons of folks on here that paid MSRP or over and wasted $20-$30K. I feel sorry for them, just like I feel sorry for the ones who feel guilty and paranoid driving theirs. I certainly didn't buy my car to feel guilty.

To me, the real definition of being wealthy is having enough money in liquid savings to live the lifestyle you aspire to for the rest of your life, plus a healthy safety margin in case the stock market drops in half (or some other calamity occurs), plus something to pass along to your kids. The rest is gravy and security.

Now once you get to the Saudi sheik level I suppose it's a question of what you want and not what you can afford, but people that came up slowly tend to have more modest tastes.

Old Sam Walton could buy and sell us all and I think he drove a Ford pickup.

But I might be confusing the attitude it takes to -get- rich with -being- rich. If the money falls in your lap and you light your cigars with $100 bills, that's your business. But don't think that having money makes one suddenly elitist and wasteful, because it doesn't. Or shouldn't!

I've had a few that obviously just wanted to see the acceleration the car can put out and that's cool as long as there's nobody around (I'm not into jeopardizing other peoples lives and property). I have noticed that the GTR's seem to be coming out of the woodwork all around me for some reason....didn't know there were so many in San Diego.

Yes. "f*" all those people that give you "dirty looks" and that you are assuming are jealous of your super fast car or fat wallet.

Sounds really douchy, doesn't it?

I was on I-40 leaving Albuquerque and some young kids in a car next to me were taking pictures of my car. After about an hour and a half into my trip, these two dudes in a Hemi Charger were trying to race me. I nailed it, hit 135 ish and let off. They did a fly-by . A short while later, those dudes were on the side of the road waiting for me. When they saw me they took off as if they were taunting me. I payed no mind and just kept driving...

people are going to give you thumbs up, others will talk crap and some will want to race you. Anything they can do just to discredit what you have. This guy pulled up next to me the other day and said, "nice Mustang" . I took it with a grain of salt and cruised on.

I am not rich or poor. I bought this car because it is f ing fast and has potential for fun on street and track. I don't get why people in a 1990's whatever stand on it next to me and smoke the tires off. I just don't get it. Or why the guy in a beater cobalt wants to race at 95 mph. I could dust him, but instead we roll at 95 to 120 for miles then he exits. It's crazy out there.

Oh yeah, the mini-van. Had that happen too. Going 90 to 100 he hangs with me, pass me, etc. Why? I just don't get it, but that's the crazy world we live in.

Maybe embarrassed to be driving a minivan and wanted to get it home and hidden as quickly as possible

That is the way my daughter and I felt when I rented one way from Enterprise in IL to take museum deliver of my Z06 and their one-way was a Kia Soul (remember the hamster commercial). Talk about embarrassing driving that into the NCM parking lot!

I don't get any dirty looks, but quite a few people will come up behind me at a fast clip and then stay there. I think most like the sound of my Z06 with a Borla X and ATAK and are hoping I'll stomp on it so they can hear it! Sometimes I oblige them for a short burst. I get a lot of thumbs up from people who truly enjoy the looks and sound of a sweet car. If there are others who feel otherwise I couldn't care less. I'm 62 years old, newly retired and am enjoying the heck out life after 40 years of hard work, and nobody will take that away no matter what sour puss they have on them!!

No dirty looks for me either, lots of positive reaction (so much more than my C6) and I love the guys who floor it when they
see me in their rear view mirror and find those radar traps for me.

I'm extremely rich! I have a great wife, children, and grandchildren. I survived Vietnam and cancer. Sometimes being "rich" doesn't always relate to monetary things.

He thought he was at Road America with that thing. Pull up next to me and gunned it a couple of times as we went down the freeway and when I didn't take his bait he sprinted off. Gotta say, whatever was in that little thing sure made it quick. Turbos?

I don't notice much in the way of looks. There are plenty of Corvettes running around my area and most people haven't got a clue if mine is a Z06 or not.

I get more people giving me thumbs up when I'm in my Jeep or my Camaro.

The reality is that any nice Corvette, or nice, shiny, and well-maintained sports car in general, will probably get glares from the masses as the average car on the road is 11.5 years old and has over 100K miles on it.

Obviously, since we're on this Forum, we're car guys, but the majority of the population view cars as nothing more than basic transportation and don't think our Corvettes are anything special.

I had a whole argument here, but then realized I was wrong because I thought of a counter-example:

You want rich car guy? I know someone with a LaFerrari. Wait, no. He's got TWO LaFerraris. He's got a coupe and a roadster. He parks them next to his Enzo, next to his 250GTB, that sort of thing.

And guess what? Not a single Chevy in that garage. So maybe you're right and I'm just operating at a different income level. We used to work together, I guess he got paid more than me

I agree most people don't understand the whole Sports car thing. I have plenty friends and family that just shake their head at me. In the end it's whatever makes you happy.

Very interesting stats there. I did almost reach them with my first car. Got rid of my 84 Camaro in 93 with over 100k on it. It treated me well though.

The last pickup truck that was on my as% turn out to have a cop behind the wheel. We had a nice chat about speed limits.

You may not be making it up, but someone is. The roadster is called the Aperta, and Ferrari built 210 of them.
