Pimped by a Dealer
I had a 2018 Grandsport and ordered a new ZR1. I got the call saying the allocations fell short on the ZR1 and the deposit was refunded. So I Picked up a new 2019 Z06 from another dealer. I will now enjoy the power of the new Z06 and wait for the new C8. I was all hot on the ZR1 until a-lot of car guys showed me the deprecation of the ZR1. Yes I will lose money on the Z06 but will enjoy the power and fun.... With a-lot less depression then the ZR1.

Enjoy your new Z06 as for depreciation I never give it a thought. It is not an investment so I am not expecting the value to do anything but decline.
Anyhow have fun with your Z.

It's funny how much people dwell on car depreciation. My TV depreciates a lot faster than my car. So does every other electronic device I purchase. Yes they're smaller dollar items but the result is the same. **** depreciates. If you don't want depreciation, sit on your money and live a boring miserable miserly life. Or enjoy the car and items you want without worrying about how much you'll sell them for later.

If you buy a Cruze, the dollar amount of depreciation per year will be a lot less.

I might’ve messed up, I didn’t mean this to be a depreciation thread. I paid 45 grand less for the Z06 vs the ZR1. I was also able use my GMS discount.
The Z06 I am very happy with the performance and horsepower.

Here's how I buy Corvettes:
I write a big check up front and assume that money is GONE forever. I never assume I'll ever get back a penny from any money I "invest" in a sports car.
When I later trade it in, if I get anything for it, I treat it as a bonus.
My C6Z depreciated from 78K to 40K between 2007 and 2015. That was less than 50% over 8 years which I considered pretty spectacular for a Corvette.
And you're smart to have done it! You'll never make use of the ZR on the street anyway, and they make the same torque down low. In a year or so that'll be much harder when ZR1s are cheaper and start to become available used.

I waited for the ZR1 to launch and I also waited to see if the 2019 Z06s would have any upgrades, revisions as a result of the new ZR1 model.
Although I would have welcomed a revised front fascia to improve cooling on the Z06, I'm still very happy with my decision. I got a healthy discount off MSRP and the dealers I spoke with weren't budging on ZR1 pricing and in most cases were charging more than MSRP.
I don't worry about depreciation because I plan to keep it awhile or until the C8 and/or mid-engine grows on me. Either way, I've never been the "first in line" guy and prefer to wait a few years for refinements, improvements, new colors, etc. Heck, I bought my C5 vert the summer of 2004 when the C6s were hitting the lot.
In terms of looks, I know all the ZR1 aero and engine changes are necessary to achieve the desired performance results, but to me it seems like the engineering team drank too much Pontiac design cool-aid.
I've seen the ZR1 up close and although it's impressive in it's raw power and attitude, I would have preferred a sleeker design with less bulges.
Just one person's opinion of course as ALL Corvettes (yes even the C4) are great!

as a current owner of 7 corvettes, including a c7 z06,I agree with you/except my very favorite corvettes are a c4 91 zr1 and a 91 areobody cr1 c4/They are fast, with clean lines, and that wonderful clam shell hood/I waited till december 2016 and bought my c7 for 23k under msrp//biggest problem I have is in a year and 1/2 they are building 2019 models//I too am waiting for the mid engine, and hope it gets smaller and lighter//

Depreciation is not that big of a deal. Bought mine new, 2016 3LZ, 7 speed, dual roof, C/F interior for $74K. No money down, financed at 1.99 for 72mos. Currently owe $52K and have 17K miles. KBB trade in is $65K. I wouldn't worry about it.
