Default C7 Z vs Mustang GT350 - Road Course Encounter

Track day at Hallett last Friday and a guy with a GT350 came up to me before first session and cautioned me he was in my group and that he'd appreciate me watching my mirrors as he was fast and didn't want me to hurt his lap times. Told me not to get scared but just hold my line and he'd make the pass safely. I was a amused and told him thanks for the warning and that I'd be on the lookout and drive with one eye on my mirror.

First session he seemed annoyed and agitated when I lapped him within 5 laps on a 1.8 mile track. Continued lapping him the entire day and he didn't seem happy. I'm a fan of the GT350 but realize it's not in the same league as a C7Z. However, I was surprised he didn't. Funny ****.

Really funny that the madder he got the more he overdrove his car trying to stay ahead to the point that I "pushed" him into an off track excursion by him overdriving and trying to hold me off.

Track photographer got the attached pic and inserted the caption shown. Cool how the C7Z looks like it's hungry and it sees it's prey/lunch directly ahead...

Well hell, I feel like a fool and was got good. Two "friends" of mine thought they had strung me along far enough and finally let me in on their little scheme/plot today.

I got punked. The Mustang "driver" who approached me was not the driver of the Mustang or anyway associated with it. He was an out-of-town friend of my so called friends attending the track day as an observer. They put him up to approaching me and asking that I stay out of his way. I feel like an *** but will fall back on the old adage, fool me once....

Sons-of-bitches.

That's a good story! Your first clue was that he said anything at all. I hope he was kidding. Fast guys don't say they are fast, they just pass you

Great story! Classy way of handling the conversation with the Mustang owner. We run the Dragon here in east Tennessee and run across a few people that under estimate the ZO6, they usually are impressed/surprised at the end of the day. These cars are easy fast. I wish I could spend some time on a track. Thanks for sharing.

Being the smartass I am, I would of gone up to him and said something to the effect that I was looking in my mirrors but didn't see you all day.

If anyone is interested here's what some would consider a decent lap of Hallett CCW at 1:19.10. Passing one car off line cost me a 10th or two and I lost another 1-2/10th's when I screwed my upshift coming out of T9. I believe it would have been a 1:18.xx if not for these two issues.

LOL. The temptation is always there but I believe most get the point as actions speak louder than words.

Nice Job Rick. His comments crack me up. "Dont hurt my lap times?" You were doing what about 10 seconds faster each lap??

Such an awesome story and outcome. The pony driver giving you some melodramatic trash talk, and you, the mighty Z06 driver, keeping your cool and doing your talking on the track. You totally destoryed and humiliated him. Love it

My DSC Sport controller and TracTive shocks keeping the car flat and planted in all situations compounds his problems...

Actually, considering what the Mustang is, I thought it was fairly well planted. But down on just about everything else. Nice foto tho.

On clean laps right at 10 seconds. On traffic laps even more so as I'm able to work the traffic much better than he as I can get through and off corners much faster as well as outbraking him greatly going into the corners. It was just a DE play day so only allowed to pass on straights.

FWIW, we were both on slicks and race pads so apples-to-apples in that regard.

True that. As stated earlier I truly like the GT350's they're just in a different category. Designed to run with the Camaro's but that's not working out too well for them either. Still nice cars.
