Default Track Comparison: C7 Z06 vs C7 GS

I just posted my latest track data comparison. This time I compared Koan's fastest 2:01.6 lap in his C7 GS to my 1:57.5 in the C7 Z06.

Koan is a very good driver and I learned a few things from looking at his data. There were also a few places where I was faster that wasn't just the HP. In the end, the 4s time difference really came down unsurprisingly to the long straights where the Z06 could stretch it's legs.

Enjoy and please subscribe to the channel.

Thank you for posting stuff like this... I am sure there is a silent majorioty, besides myself, that study and learn from you and people like Bill.... With zero additional training I have been able to learn a lot from you two! Thank you very much for taking the time to share this!

Thanks! That's great to hear and very encouraging. There's times I post these videos and I wonder whether I'm the only one that understands what I'm saying and finds it interesting.

Nope, they're appreciated! They're usually not controversial so don't always generate the response you might hope, but rest assured they're being consumed...

A narrative might help. For the people that don't know what they're looking at, maybe take a corner and explain what the two lines show about the GS and Z. Not that it's your job, of course!

When in doubt you can always check the viewcount on YouTube as well. For example 50 people have watched this one so far.

190 extra hp gets the c7z06 11 to 12 mph on that 5th gear straight over the 460 hp gs

Will be interesting to to see what the 105hp gets the c7zr1 over the c7z06.

That 105hp gets the c7zr1 at 13.7 seconds to 150 mph —more the 4 seconds better then the c7z06 At 17.8 seconds.

I posted something similar in the C7 ZR1 section a couple of weeks ago after I first looked at this data. For the most part, the speed differences on the straights are greater from Z06 to ZR1 than they are from GS to Z06. Some of it is the extra 105 HP, some of it is less drag, some might be the way it's delivered, and then the auto trans might help too.

In any case, I'm expecting the ZR1 to be 3-4 seconds a lap faster than the Z06 at VIR Full just on the straights alone. I can't wait to find out.

Very interesting comparison. It looks like a near perfect lap could have a GS under 2 minutes. Both drivers are doing a great job. So hard to get all the turns right in one lap.

Did you get data on oil temps between the cars? Curious how the NA motor GS was doing and your car. The other day at Summit, my high was 262. Thanks for sharing all this information!

2:00.something for sure. Getting another 1.6 seconds would be tough though as Koan was really wheeling that thing.

I didn't cover the fluid temps because my session I was comparing against was a restart after a red flag and since i stopped the PDR during the red flag it was only 3 laps. It also was a cool day for me (ambient was 68F) but I don't know for Koan. It was late October though so it was likely pretty cool.

Fluid temps for the GS at the end of the session (lap 13):
Coolant: 217F
Oil: 278
Trans: 232

Fluid temps for the Z06 this session:
Coolant: 217F
Oil: 257
Trans: 215

I went looking at VIR data trying to find the highest I've seen with the 2017 Z06 and that is this from a day with the ambient of 90F:

Coolant: 221
Oil: 275
Trans: 248

For fun I put up a separate video that shows the two run videos side by side.

I wouldn't of expected to see the oil temps quite that high in the GS

I agree. Does the GS have CCBs? Seems like it's braking a bit better coming in hot later in corners. Or maybe it's just me. Regardless awesome vid showing them side by side. Not losing taking either of those rides!

I discuss this in the first video with the data breakdown. Koan was definitely better at braking a little later in places. It also helps that the GS speed at the end of the straights was lower so you had less speed to scrub off. I have AP Racing brakes on my car but I'm not sure about his GS. In any case, it was a function of driver rather than the equipment and is definitely a place I can improve.

One of the great things about making these videos is that I'm always learning from the other person's data.

Thank you for posting this kind of information, very well organized and informative. I have to hand it to you both, some very nice driving. That GS really gets into the corners hot, not to take anything away from his skill but maybe the lighter front end helps the car turn a little faster than the Z.

Keep posting these, your analysis is spot on and very informative.
