MPS 4s, Conti ECS, Alpin pa4 , etc. non run flat tire reviews
Just thought some of you would be interested about the non run flat tires i have tried on the Z06. Of course the OEM tires are superb, but i wanted a softer ride, fewer rocks thrown, quieter ride, not too easy to hydroplane ,etc. and decided to get summer and winter sets for year round driving. Air pump and plug kit kept in trunk!.
Summer
Michelin Pilot Sport 4s 275 35 19 front 325 25 20 rear. I wanted taller fronts so splitter wouldn't scrape as often. Fantastic tires in all regards although apparently not tough enough for extended track duty.
Continental Extremecontact sport 275 35 19, 335 25 20. Very good tires but not as good as MPS 4s except slightly softer ride and quieter tire.
Winter Tires:
Michelin Alpin pa4 285 35 19, 335 25 20 . . I wanted taller fronts so splitter wouldn't scrape as often. Apparently the size difference from stock causes traction control to kick in under hard acceleration although i can just turn it off. Excellent winter/snow traction, and good summer straight line performance although not as good in curves. Could almost use this tire year round.
Sottozero 3 fitted to c6 z06 rims 245 40 18 305 35 19 almost as good as the Alpin pa4.
Summary
I run them all at cold inflation 27 psi for softer ride/less noise, and none of the front tires scrub in tight turns. Fewer worries about hydroplaning, don't pick up nearly as many rocks and not as many nails in the tread! In my opinion you lose too much steering traction with the winter tires to use them with confidence in the summer. Summer tires are great but not as good as oem tires in summer dry performance.
