Default Buying a Leftover 2017

I'm picking a new leftover 17 Z06 this weekend and wanted some opinions on what to look out for since the car has been sitting on the lot for over a year. Haven't seen the car yet other than pictures, and I'm driving 7 hours to drop off my trade and pick up the new car.

I'm guessing the tires will be fine but I'm worried about the battery. Anything else I should be checking/looking out for?

Steve,

First off, Congrats!

The battery is covered by the warranty. Take the car for a test drive, if there is no vibration on the tires you are good. If there is the dealership can give you a document saying that if the tires have not smoothed out in a number of miles they will replace them.

Other than that I think you are good. At 500 miles change or have the diff fluid changed. lot of sheen in mine at 500.

awesome purchase....when you have completed the deal please share with us your msrp and actual purchase price.

If the numbers are right then the move to buy a left over 2017 is a fantastic way to go..

I would follow the advise above and enjoy that screaming beast of a world class supercar!

There isn’t much for sale in the automotive world that can keep up with a properly driven z06..

Go for the driving school experience if you can...

The best mod ever is an educated pilot behind the wheel of that insane rocket GM calls the c7 z06..

Feel free to pm the details of the deal if you prefer.

Thanks

I was a little concerned about this myself but was assured she was taken good care of on the 40 miles worth of test drives.

Ps...just to add a little humor and perspective to ease your concerns...of purchasing a left over 2017 on the lot.

Remember most PRE owned 2017 corvette z06 s...mostly sit under a cover in their owners garages putting on as little as 1000 miles a year wi5out a problem.

I don’t believe you ll have any issues buying a properly prepped 2017 c7 z06 as long as it doesn’t have those tires that crack if driven in temperatures under 40 degrees ..

Check the tires if they re among the ones that that cant survive sub 40degrees...other than that...40miles is nothing. The dealers are very protective of their z06 s...I’m sure they were driven and cared for respectively

You will be fine and I’m sure you are getting a smoking deal!

Yeah I think I'll be ok as well. I did fine on the deal, 20% off MSRP and a fair number on my trade. Could I have done a little better? Maybe, but this car checked every single box that I wanted so I went for it. Would have regretted missing out on this car more than I would for not saving a few extra bucks.

I just picked up a new 2017 Z06 with 7 miles on the odometer. It was in the showroom it's whole life. I drove it home 4 hours back to Houston with no issues. I wouldn't worry about anything...just make sure you follow the break in procedure.

Congrats! I just went through the same thing earlier this month on a "leftover" (or as I like to think of it, "Overlooked") 2017. Though I was keen on the potential savings I was cautious looking at a 2017 Z06 Vert that was 16 months old, especially from a distance. Here is my experience, and observations:

Personal Visit: This is a HUGE investment, I would proceed cautiously. My dealer was 90 minutes away, and while not local enough to just "pop-in" it is far closer than 7 hours, so I made the trip up 3 times total (the last being to close the deal). Ask for copious amounts of photos. This is a reasonable ask for a distance purchase.

Condition: When I first saw it I was VERY pleased at the showroom condition, as it had obviously been kept in their indoor showroom in Wisconsin through the past 5+ seasons. It was flawless. My point is, just because it is a 2017, DO NOT make excuses for it. It is a brand new car and should be flawless.

Inspector: Becasue I was able to see it first hand, this was not an issue, but for you hiring a local inspector may be worth the time and money. I doubt it would cost you more than $150 on a new car. It sounds like you are well on your way to making this happen, but just a thought.

Price: When the May GM incentives kicked in we came to an agreement on pric. We settled right at 20% off MSRP and I'm very pleased with that. Ultimately, they need you more than you need them. They NEED a buyer willing to take a 17 off their hands. You can look at an ‘18 or ‘19 if this doesn’t workout.

Pre-Delivery: I asked for a full pre-delivery inspection by their mechanics including an OIL change and I asked that they evaluate the battery condition and replace if at all not optimal. The battery was not replaced and I have had no issues...but easy to replace if there is. I wanted to make sure it wouldn’t give me any problems during the drive home.

They also did the balance of the pre-delivery installation pieces (side skirts, splitter, spoiler) in advance. I would make sure this is done in advance of your departure because you do not want to deal with waiting on them with that distance traveled. If they are unwilling to do so, that would raise a red flag or me.

Patience: My final piece of advice, which is a REALLY tough pill to swallow after a 7 hour drive: Be prepared to walk away.

If this is not the car, there are others...most of all, you do not want a headache car. I looked the car over from the perspective of what can be EASILY corrected / replaced under warranty? If it could be, I ignored it (though I found little).

Test Drive: Though I had seen my car in person, I had not test driven it. I required that prior to delivery, as I wanted to ensure there were no odd knocks, or rattles. I had none and it only made me more excited about closing the deal. If the dealer gives you crap, its a 2017 not a 2019 ZR1.

Best of luck and enjoy.

I also picked up a "over looked" 2017 for 20k off sticker. Car will be going back in to fix the front bumper paint issues.

Have them install a new battery as part of the deal.

And then otherwise do a thorough walk-around and test drive.

Being cautious is good..but some of these suggestions like the battery being replaced isn’t always necessary if it checks out good.

Jmo and I’m sure the vehicle is awesome...

First rule that I live by is do your best to enjoy the purchase.

Make it pleasant and fun. Be careful yet be polite.

I mean no disrespect to any other posters.

Just the way I live....and I usually throw the salesman , if not the salemanager conducting the transaction, a few dollars for the salesman and his way wife to have dinner on me..

Make sure the car is not punched. Or else you would have lost a few months of warranty plus a shortened time frame to claim the free oil changes.

Check for acid rain-spots on windshield, paint, wheels and other glass on vehicle. Check for lot rash as well. Look over the vehicle in the daytime outside, not in a bay area or under an overhang... you can miss a lot, especially on a dark colors. GLWD
