2019 Z06 - to fine tune or not to fine tune?
I've been away from the Forum for many many years. But I'm back. I just bought a 2019 Z06. Love the car but a nagging question keeps popping up in my head. Soooo I'm asking those that are in the know. Should I consider, and, do you recommend fine tuning this car (if possible) or should I just leave it alone?

When you can put the throttle to the floor and hold it there through the first 5 gears, hit the brakes to slow down to 50 and do it again you will be ready to tune. If you can't handle stock level HP adding more is a waste of $$.

It’s up to you if you tune it but if you do it will void your warranty. If you are making mods then a tune makes more sense. I had always tuned and moded my corvettes but I am leaving this one stock. I guess 650 is enough horsepower and torque for me. Haha. Good luck. Bill

Leave it alone unless your going to mod the hell out of it. Not worth voiding the warranty for 50hp.

I think well chosen mods put the car in a different league . You could at least do the BMS filter.
The lt4 really responds to mods. But as far as tuning for no reason other than to be tuning I would pass! I bought with the intent of adding some power mods. My friend of more than 10 years tunes and I know they are good tunes.

For me I plan on doing
intake (AFE)
ported throttle body (TM)
long tube headers, coated with a catless x pipe (2', ARH, or Kooks)
pulley ( IW 9%)
tune
and that's it.

Go watch a fast lap by your local corvette ace in a stock z06 and if you can beat him, then add power . If you cant, then invest your time and money into driving better and getting instruction.

IMHO your best bet is to do nothing as 650 is a lot for a great dialed in street car like the Z06. That said, if you are a charter member of the too much is never enough club, then if the budget will allow and you wanna keep the warranty, you can send it to Calloway for their 757/777 package for $21,000 including the 3/36 supplement to the GM OEM and the 5/60 powertrain coverage and have fun with no worries. You can probably get the same kind of power upgrade with the TVS 2300 etc for about half as much with hopefully a decent local tuner ( always a gamble unless you really know and trust them) but if anything lets go on the powertrain, you’re on your own.

Yes, you should "fine tune" the chassis. Car can't put down the power it has due to shitty chassis set up from the factory. First thing ANY owner should do is get a VERY accurate alignment including the rear caster.
After car is properly aligned further fine tune by getting get a DSC Sport shock controller you'll be good to go.
It's comical how many people want to add horsepower to a car that can't utilize the power it already has. Does NOTHING to improve performance if you can't use what you have.
I'm always GREATLY amused when people come up to me at track events and all they want to know is how much HP I've added and what corresponding mods I've done to make my car get around the track as quickly as it does. They think I'm lying to them when I tell them I'm running stock power with a properly tuned chassis. So funny and it happens EVERY SINGLE track day. I run quite a few days and I only run local which is Hallett. I've NEVER been to an event where anybody is turning quicker times than my stock powered C7Z.
It's really surprising how many people can't appreciate or grasp this concept.

However for the sake of conversation and balance I will present food for thought.
For sure one of the advantages of a tune on a stock LT4 is a few more HP. But HP isn't the whole story when it comes to a tune.
For example, torque is also a big factor and is in some areas on the round tracks more usable than HP. And can be put to use in some areas of the track without much skill. In other words a fatter wider torque curve in the mid range rpm areas can be taken advantage of by even lessor skilled drivers.
Additionally on the street in the mid range rpm areas where the engine spends 80% of its time, another 50 ftlbs of torque, more responsive throttle, better mileage and earlier cooling fan engagement can be a lot of fun even for those who cant extract the maximum out of the car at full tilt. Are they faster than seasoned guys in stock tuned Z06's? Probably not, but they are certainly faster than they otherwise would be for their skill level.

Mod the hell out of it then get it tuned by someone that knows what they are doing. I have a 2016 Z06 making around 900HP and haven't had any problems yet. The key is the tune.. I drove 5 hours to get my car tuned. I live in Pittsburgh PA. and there are several places I could of went but decided to go with www.raceprovenmotorsports.net because of their reputation. They have people shipping their cars from thousands of miles away. Remember anyone can hang parts on a car but it takes a professional to tune it... Good luck!!

AFAIK, 2019 Z06s ECMs are locked from GM & no one can tune them yet. Owners of 2019+ C7 are forced to leave it stock or do nothing more than a drop in air filter and X-pipe

So it's not just the ECM on the ZR1, they've locked down the ECM on new Z06s, too?
