FYI: Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40 Now Avaialble to Order
I received the following email today from Mobil in response to my inquiry about the retail availability of the new oil:
"Thank you for writing to us. The new product name is Mobil 1 ESP Formula 0W-40. It has, until very recently, only been available to the Corvette assembly plant, and to GM dealers with a little decal stating "Not labeled for retail sale, for commercial use only" because we've only had the European labels available.
GM dealers as well as any parts store capable of placing special orders can now buy the new US market retail packages under part number 123875, which is a case of six 1 quart bottles.
I hope this helps.
Thank you for choosing Mobil,
Jim

The difference is that it is not the same oil, however the results are good with the European formula 0W-40. See this thread:

And if someone were to go with a non stamped dexos oil, you might as well go with something even better then M1 0w-40 like redline oil.

That's the one we're waiting for.

Not that lol

The issue is that the euro model doesn't have the dexos stamp on the bottle. I know it's not a big deal but to some it is.

I am not advocating the use of any particular oil. I am just posting my results with analyses performed on my engine in the link above. Others results may vary. After countless oil analyses that I have performed on various oils in various use scenarios in various engines, I still don't know anything compared to Mobil 1 and GM engineers. Therefore I tend to lean towards what the engine manufacturer recommends. We all can choose what we use in our engines. They are our engines so if what someone uses in theirs is not recommended and they feel comfortable with it then go for it. I just think I might lose in a shouting match between those engineers and myself if my engine grenades. That is why I ordered the Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40. When I get some use out of it I will post the oil analysis for comparison and we will see how it did! The ESP formula I got today is the one we have been waiting for.

If you think they are gouging you then stay with the 5W30, $20 AR for 10qts.
